i know there a post on here asking what atari systems are emulated, but i cant find a atari 7800 emulator anywere, i need to play tank commander , help me ob1......and will it work with firmware 2.1 and 2.1.1

The Atari 800 emulator will run 7800 roms, it supports the Atari XE (my first computer :p ) and that was fully 7800 compatible. Worth having just to own the best version of 'Attack of the mutant camels'. :D

Are you sure about that? The Atari XE was a console version of the Atari 800XL. Although similar in some ways, the 7800 was more like an hybrid version of 2600 and 5200; thus 7800.

My bad, getting a bit coffused I think (thats what you get for trying to speed read wiki page). The 7800 was a totally different system but was backwards compatible with most 2600 games. Needless to say the atari 800 emulator is still well worth having and at least some of the 7800 games were also available on XE.

You need Mess, it'll do 7800 as well as Apple ][ and a few others. It's in the archive somewhere.

It is in Xmess but it is very slow. There are no fullspeed 7800 emus.

I am sure that in an old thread someone said that it's pretty good on gp2x overclocked to 250mhz, but not full speed. Telengard has said he's looking into improving the speed.

Hi there,

As mentioned gp2xmess will run Atari 7800 games. Unfortunately, as DaveC mentioned, some of the games run quite slow and I apologize for that. If you are looking for 100% perfect 0 frameskip Atari 7800 I'm afraid there aren't any options. However, some games run decent and with overclocking in my opinion it runs quite well. For instance Ballblazer is just way too slow, it seems to "push" the 7800 way more than Asteroids does which runs OK enough to play.

I have done significant profiling of the bottlenecks w/ the Atari 7800 driver (using gprof) in MESS and it is the "core" emulation of the system that is slow. It's something I hope to work on eventually, although free time is in short supply lately. :(

The Atari 800 emulator for the gp2x can play Atari 5200 games I believe, but not Atari 7800.

Yeah, like the others who've already responded, it runs under MESS but many games don't run at full speed. Here is a video of the 7800 running under gp2x mess v0.9b. Playable but definitely not full speed.
