Yesterday my son tried to start "Battle for Wesnoth" again.

Unfortunately it won't launch any more!

The SD LED is flickering for a moment but nothing happens.

If I am quick a can see the wesnoth folder appearing in /mnt/pnd/ via ls in the terminal but it vanishes immediately.

dmesg gives me this output:

[ 759.784057] aufs test_add:261:mount[3844]: uid/gid/perm /mnt/pnd/wesnoth-1.11 1000/1000/0755, 0/0/0777

SD card seems to be OK - my other games run nicely from the same card...

Can this have something to do with upgreading to the latest firmware?

Maybe someone can help me to resolve this?

In the current firmware you'll see similar text in dmesg output every time you load a PND.

The contents of the /tmp/pndrun_wesnoth-1.11.out file are more likely to contain a clue as to what's gone wrong.

Thanks for pointing me to this.

(I was looking in the wrong tmp folder - I am still quite noobish when it comes to linux or the PND system)

the pndrun.out file looks like this:

=======================================================================================
PND : /media/GAMES/pandora/apps/wesnoth-1.11.2-1.pnd

EDIT:

"Error in command line: unknown option smallgui" looks like a problem with the app or the PND itself or am I getting this wrong?

Does anybody else trying to run this PND encounter such a problem?

EDIT2:

I just downloaded V1.10 and it runs as it should - maybe I should contact ivanovic about it...

just tryed it on my cc with the latest SZ on it and started up no problems also it is the ver 1.11.1 of BoW

dam didn't even see the new one, way too much stuff going up daily hard to keep up

I wrote a PM to ivanovic - maybe he can fix this.

For now I "downgraded" to the stable branch (1.10.x) which still works nicely...

It's easy enough to fix.

Save the following text in a file called run.sh in appdata/wesnoth-1.11 and it should work just fine.

#!/bin/sh

#copy over a default preferences file
mkdir --parents ./userdata/
cp --no-clobber preferences.default ./userdata/preferences

HOME="./" ./bin/wesnoth --config-dir userdata --fullscreen -r 800x480 .
 Of course if you are using a linux based filesystem on the SD card (like ext3) you'll need to make it executable as well.

chmod +x /media/SDCardName/pandora/appdata/wesnoth-1.11/run.sh
Don't forget to delete it when you upgrade to a new version of the PND though.

For the record, this fix seems to no longer be required for BfW 1.11.3 so I'd recommend removing the modified run script from appdata when you upgrade to the latest version.
