Akuma no Houkon: That's a bit of misinformation you're spreading there... the GBAX "guaranteed" 166MHz GP32s have been modified according to
my site, not "weeded out".
So, if you buy a guaranteed 166MHz GP32, you will get 166MHz. If you buy a non-guaranteed GP32, there is a 60% chance you will get 166MHz. If you buy from any other supplier, there is still a 60% chance you will get 166MHz.
I am not spreading any misinformation, I didn't specify any particular site or store. My post was a general post and not written to discourage anyone from purchasing any model from any store. Personally, not just with GP32, but with other electronics that can be OC'ed (or any similar enhancement), I have noticed that stores tend to weed out the higher ones and sell those for more, its a common practice, something to be cafefull for.
I dont know if the sites that offer 166 GP32's do so by weeding them out or if they do it by some kind of modification. The site you refered to www.gbax.com does not say if they mod it (therefore killing any kind of manufacturers warrenty), or what, if they do mod it, legally they are required to inform you before the purchase is finalized that this is a modified product (usually in the form of a legal agreement), so you know that its not original and has no Manufacturers Warrenty.
Before you order from a place that modifies your hardware, be sure you contact the manufacturer and find out if your warrenty is still valid (it wont be), but its best to check with the official source. So you know what you are buying into.
Although in their defense, I have heard good things about the return policy that gbax has, but this doesnt legally excuse them from informing the purchaser that they are purchasing an unofficial modified product. (if it is indeed modified).
Since I got to the final page of ordering a GP32 from gbax and still didnt see any notification of modification, I therefore assume, that its not modified and they are weeding them out, otherwise they are in violation of law.
