Goldendict problem

I am wondering if anyone has set up goldendict for chinese?

I am using stardict dictionary files and a babylon BGL file

It all works fine on my netbook (with files in /usr/share/...)

And yes I know you are supposed to run it, put the dictionary files

in card/pandora/appdata/goldendict/portable/content

The trouble is that it does not find them, no matter how I do it

Do I have to edit the config file in portable?

Another issue is that evince is very slow for complicated pdf's ,

can take minutes. Any update planned? Or another choice?

So it must be that no-one uses goldendict?

There is certainly very little information on it

When a bgl (babylon) file is in content it does not find it

When the stardict gz dict files are in content it does not find them

when the gz files are expanded (making a subdirectory it does not find them

When these files are moved to the parent dir (content) it does not find them

The add dictonary screen cannot be moved, is too big, but I know

the name of the buttons from the netbook. Everything is grayed out

Anyone?

Oh yes, goldendict. I remember that I was trying to install some data files for it while I was waiting at the airport, but I mostly found .exes at the time. I had completely forgotten about it.

Thanks for reminding me to take another look at it.

I'm using goldendict quite frequently (I'm learning Polish). For Polish I'm using my own dictionary in ABBYY Lingvo .dsl format (created from a text file by a Perl script). For English and French I'm using successfully stardict dictionaries. Here is for example the directory structure of the English-German dictionary:

Code:
/pandora/appdata/goldendict/portable/content/stardict-freedict-eng-deu-2.4.2/dictd_www.freedict.de_eng-deu.dict.dz

/pandora/appdata/goldendict/portable/content/stardict-freedict-eng-deu-2.4.2/dictd_www.freedict.de_eng-deu.idx

/pandora/appdata/goldendict/portable/content/stardict-freedict-eng-deu-2.4.2/dictd_www.freedict.de_eng-deu.ifo

I can't remember exactly what I've done during installation; I think I did a "rescan" and then the new dictionaries were found. Certainly I didn't edit any config file manually.

Thanks Atomos

That was my 2nd configuration

Rescan does not seem to find any dictionaries

Can you give me the dictionary you've tried? Then I can try to install it on my Pandora and we will at least know whether this is a problem of the dictionary.

I am travelling now, in about a week I will be back,

will make a post with attachment

Do you want bgl or stardict?

dave

It makes perhaps sense to try both formats; so if you have both available post them.

Hi Atomos

here is a bgl attachment, will zip up the star dict files later

(I have 3 different star dict dictionaries, there are 4 files per dictionary)

Hmm -- it seems to take long enough to upload the attachment, but it does not

show up, seems to be silently discarded? Can attachments only be zips?

dave

Trying again, the smallest star dict

dave

edit: somehow the attachment does not show up

Hi Dave

I've downloaded all three packages. Then I've created one folder in the content folder for each package and unzipped them therein. After starting Goldendict I've got the message "Please wait while indexing..." (or something similar) and after about 30 seconds all three dictionaries were available.

Apparently all works as expected, I copied one chinese string from an entry in the ec dictionary to the look up field while using the ce dictionary and I've got the correct answer.

So the dictionaries are ok, perhaps your Goldendict version is not working? Here is a screenshot with my test as well as the version number of Goldendict I'm using.

Hi atomos

I think I should make content empty and add one at a time

these dictionaries. I think my mistake was expanding

the dz files (which is a zip), within this zip is another file

with the same name that is a word list.

I now have the indexing msg, but still not working, it just ends

It may be choking on the bgl

Some progress

thanks

Further experimentation: it does not like babylon bgl's,

it causes an immediate crash when I tell it to rescan after it is added to content

This is the same bgl used by my netbook, with no problem

It works with all the stardict and xdict files so far

thanks atomos
