I maded a retro-themed ASCII art (80 columns) to celebrate the (hopefully) "Year Of The Pyra"! :

Source is here, color-formatted for IRC. Max line length is line 28 with 448 characters. This might or might not cause problems pasting to IRC, depending on a variety of parameters. http://0x0.st/sRs9.unc

[EDIT] Small fixes: http://0x0.st/sRsD.unc
Here are the line lengths of the longest lines if you are getting line-breaks.
Code:
sRsD.unc__________________________ 432 029
sRsD.unc__________________________ 433 030
sRsD.unc__________________________ 442 033
sRsD.unc__________________________ 444 027
sRsD.unc__________________________ 444 028
[EDIT2] ANSI UTF-8 version for your .bashrc or whatever ;) http://0x0.st/sRzo.ans

A script to 'cat' a picture slowly is for e.g. :
Code:
perl -MTime::HiRes=usleep -pe '$|=1;usleep(1080100)' "$@"

[No i'm not doing sprites for your game; I am not good at this yet and this took me a few days to make] :)

Are you *manually* adjusting ansi colour codes and characters in plaintext? I thought you were using an ascii art program :O
WHY are you manually adjusting ansi colour codes and characters in plaintext? Why aren't you using an ascii art program?

Because they don't do unicode. ▌▚ ▞ ▛ ▞ ▀ ▚ (PS these are not ANSI color codes but IRC ones)

I'm putzing around with my own editor ideas.

So to set background to bright red, user hits BL
To switch current drawing character to halftone block ░, user types 1S

What u think?

I did once come across a little script that would convert an imput image (gif, jpeg etc) into a utf8-halftoned string with ansi colour codes embedded, to give you a sshable preview of an image for example. I forget why I took against it; I have a vague recollection that the code was pretty much unreviewable for some reason, but in any case I ended up using tiv which only does one colour per character space, but is usually still enough for me to distinguish between two photos remotely.

Not so much. That simply uses coloured ascii characters against a white background. The thing I'm thinking of used halftone characters and set the foreground and background colours potentially for each character to effectively have two colours per character space, doubling the vertical resolution.
