how does the LCD display compare between the old and new Pandoras?

I'm interested in this, too. I would like to see some high-quality comparison photos, if possible in different situations.

I'd be more interested to know what could be done about it? I mean we've been told theyre the exact same screen (with possible differences in manufacturing process to explain differences).

So if they are different, would could reasonably be done about it with out chopping up old and new units and merging them into some kind of 1ghz rebirth unit?

discuss :P

The screen on the first batch Pandora appears brighter and clearer than the screen on the 1 GHz Pandora.

I am going to swap the 1 GHz board into the first batch Pandora.

Already has DS hinge mod.

Controls already broken in.

Matches my black ThinkPad. B)

I really only use one Pandora at a time so the silver one will go back into the upholstered wood box.

I did the swap and it went well. Now my precious black first batch Pandora has a 1 GHz board.

I can see where the silver case was strengthened as there is more plastic material on the bottom to take the pressure of the shoulder buttons.

ON Topic:

The new screen itself isn't terribly bad, I didn't notice the difference until I looked at my old one. The old screen is better in comparison though.

I never really had LCD related tearing issues.

Most of the tearing I had was because of SDL.

Notaz improved SDL with the john4p triple buffer mod solved most tearing issues.

The other tearing issues (GnGB GB/GBC emulator) I think are software issues and even those are improved with the SDL tweaks.

If there is something specific you want me to test on old versus new screen let me know.

Maybe Fusion_Power had ghosting in mind, which is noticeable in some situations. You can try loading up Sonic1 in PicoDrive and compare.

I played Sensible Soccer a lot on both my 1st batch and rebirth.

Both were equally good.

Yes, ghosting, blurr-thing while fast moving stuff on screen, mainly noticable with high contrast in between colours like white/black. ^^" Sonic games are still good looking and clear, even in high speed mode. But I've played it so much on the GP2X (also Picodrive) that the ghosting of the Pandora Screen looks more intense than onto the GP2X screen.

maybe this is a general problem, as more Pixel a screen has, and as smaller it is. I really hope, Pandora 2 will not have a HD screen, I doub't it can have decent reaction times.
