In some threads I did mention I want to build a Pyra suitcase and put a Screen into the Lid.

Requirements are:

1: Low Power (should run with a battery pack)

2: Flat

3: 15'' would be nice

4: I'd prefer HDMI to make things easy

There is nearly no low power screen I can find that has HDMI and a good size.

Or they are not flat.

Most screens that would fit my needs are USB only.

Which means DisplayLink (or other proprietary software requirements) which has bad Linux support and is not good for gaming.

On Ebay I found a Chinese company which offers what I need: a Full HD Panel with external Controller board

The Data Sheet (Chinese, Google translate helps a little) seems to have the screen specifications on Page 6/13.

So if I do not use full brightness Power consumption should be OK.

What I'm concerned about are the last two columns of the first table.

Does this mean this Display does have a response time of 50 ms?

So what do you think, is this Display any good for me?

I don't want it as an every day Display.

It's a gadget I might want to use if I need a bigger screen with the Pyra outside.

For this it seems to be the cheapest and most easy solution to me.

DisplayLink should actually work well with USB3, at least in terms of bandwidth. Not sure how "heavy" it would be on the OMAP5 of the Pyra, but it can only be better than on the Pandora.

That's an ordinary monitor without a case.

I guess you have two options.

a) You buy this one and make your own case.

b ) You get a cheap 12V monitor and modify it.

I know.

Read this and you might think a little different about DisplayLink.

It may not be the great open source solution it seems to be.

If you can prove this article wrong and ensure me that new DL technology (3xx,4xx and 5xx) will work with Pyra then i'm fine with it as well.

That's exactly what I want.

I do not want the case as it will take up space.

And I didn't find any good 12V monitor.

All I'm concerned is if this monitor is garbage or not.

well, it's sure more expensive than HD screens or lower resolution screen, but still 2880*1800

Does the OMAP even work with that?

The Website you linked to says "DP port" are you sure it does have DisplayLink (DL) and not Display Port (DP - apple standard) connector.

I'm with Wally here cheap is better.

I need money for SSD, Battery Pack and so on.

Another Question is if I should take a 1080p screen or a 768 x 1024 one.

Is the battery a lot better with the lower res screen?

I would prefer the 1080p screen.

If resolution is not crucial, but power consumption and daylight visibility is, then maybe you should use a PixelQi screen or something like that?

Seems like 10`` is the biggest they have.

I do prefer something bigger.

15" would be nice.

hum, you are right, it's DisplayPort not DisplayLink... that's said it's not an Apple connector at all... it's a VESA interface designed to replace VGA and DVI.

Right.

Apple has Mini DisplayPort.

But Display port wouldn`t be that a problem I think.

There are adapter cables from DisplayPort to HDMI.

Here's an other screen from the Chinese company: http://www.ebay.de/itm/HDMI-VGA-AV-Audio-USB-FPV-Control-board-14inch-1600x900-LTN140KT01-Lcd-panel-/360893412096?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5406ec7300

I now have the choice between

1:

1080p Full HD

15"

2:

1600 x 900

14"

Do you think 1" and the resolution difference does noticeable impact battery life?

Is the resolution real visible/important different?

The data sheet says HDMI supports: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

Don`t see 1600 x 900.

Will I even be able to use the whole resolution?

If the Power consumption isn't a big difference I'd prefer the bigger one.
