Hello, I've added the SDL port section to here.

http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/SDL_Ports

Everyone, feel free to add to this.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello People,

I'm putting together a list of "port"able SDL games and applications. (Those that can be ported) with information on the the ease for each port for my own benefit. However, I can see this as useful information for the development community.

If anyone wants to start porting a game, please state it in the WIP WIki page.

http://wiki.gp2x.org/index.php/Works_In_Progress

Also note that I received permission for posting any correspondence from each application author.

Nice idea, but why not put it in the Wiki?
wiki.gp2x.org

I've mentioned the wiki for anyone who wants to port. If I decide to port a game, I'll add that to the wiki.

But this is really going to be a large administration doco. I'd be happy to add it to the wiki if people agree that they dont mind such a messy monster being there.

Libs: SDL 1.2.6

Developer: Exophase

Screen Size: 640 x 200 since it uses DOS-sized text, might be a problem

See this long running thread of the same topic on ZG:

Thanks, that's a good read. But it does not seem very organised.

I'm hoping this list will focus only on existing SDL games and application that can be directly ported. To be open-ended and informative to encourage developers to port every possible game/app. (there is a definitive list.)

I'm hoping to have quite a few done by myself before the early november release.

Thanks H3lmut

I'm going to go through the list at libsdl.com tonight.

I'm not sure if I should cover the emulators, as they all seem to be covered according to the development update. (Thats the only thing stopping me from writing a port for one of the NES emus.)

I don't know if this is the right thread to post this in, but I thought it would be awesome if someone were to port a Raiden or R-Type clone. I have no idea which libs it would use, or what resolution it would need to be. Hell, I don't even know if it's already been done or not. I'm just kinda throwing out an idea here . . .

What do you guys think?

If mame emulation is being done for GP2X (which i think it is) then R-Type would already be supported. The R-Type 1 and 2 roms for MAME are great. Just thought I would let you know.

Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters (the "SC2" part of the name cannot be used since it's still copyrighted, so the game is actually called just "The Ur-Quan Masters" nowadays)

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Controls: 8 directions, several action/menu buttons used in the game (4, maybe 5 max), NO MOUSE

Resolution: 320x240 (perfect for GP2X screen)

For all other questions, go to their Wiki FAQ List:

It's a huge game, but I think it's really worth porting - it's one of the best games ever made. B)

I think this will need to be organized better. Maybe into three categories on the Wiki: SDL ports, feasible ports, hopeful ports.

To port:

Template:

"name of game"
Description
Link

Libs:

Screen Size:

Developer:

Input:

Correspondence:

SDL Ports

...

Feasible Ports

...

Hopeful Ports

/
And of course you could do sub categories within those, for the actual type of port: Game, App, Util, Media, Misc. This is how I think the Port section of the wiki should be organized. I have no experience with editing wikis though. I will type up a list of games, etc but I would rather have someone else edit the wiki as mentioned. Are you the one that is gonna do that icarafu? If not, any other takers?

I'll try and add to the wiki soon. I'm always careful about that, cause people can be very protective of them.

I think this list is best kept with SDL only. I think a feasable and hopeful list is really just a wish list for newbies. I just want to have an impartial list of current SDL application indicating the level of difficulty to port to the GP2X. To make it easy for porters to start systematically porting games and apps.

If you want to create a wish list then thats great in a thread. I think it could have some very interesting discussion between developers, but I'd hate to see some of the post that would occur is some newbies found out about it. :D

I'm not really sure how good a feasilbility list would help the wiki, as non SDL projects are open to a lot of debate. Maybe after a lot of discussion on a particular project we could add it to the wiki as note points.
