Hi Everyone,

This maybe a long and boring post to most people, You have been warned.

Some of you may know me or know of me, As i have been part of this community for a fair chunk of my life, Over the last seven years. I can honestly say that i have enjoyed it immensely, Even though i have been a pretty quiet person, Maybe More-so since i have been a moderator. What`s all this you may ask ???, Well, I have been having a really good think over the last few days, And have decided to get my life in check.
What the hell are you on about, You may ask ?. Ok, This isn`t easy, But the web helps to keep anonymity, So this will be easier than telling anyone face to face.

WARNING, Most of you guys and girls here may not have much of an idea, understanding or experience of what i have written below, And i do not expect you to, As pretty much 95% of people do not experience such extremes as i have, Or others like me.

Ok, I have social anxiety disorder or social phobia (self diagnosed about five years ago) and find it extremely difficult to deal with and be myself in social situations, Without becoming nervous, Anxious or embarrassed (to put it lightly). I have been this way for as far back as i can remember, So you can pretty much say it has ruled my life.

Well, This is where things are going to change, I have decided i am not going to put up with this crap anymore, I want MY life back. I want to be able to do the social things most people do, Be able to actually enjoy them, And have happy and positive memories after taking part in social events. Instead of making stupid excuses to avoid them, Going through hours, days even weeks of constant anxiety leading up-to such events, Yes, Even simple things, Such as Walking along the street, Going to the pub or socialising with your friends can be difficult or nigh-on impossible to carry out when you are going through the effects of S.A.D or social phobia.

Why am i telling you all this ?, Well, For those who know of me, Or may be a slight bit interested, I have decided to tackle this once and for all, And will be seeking medical advice as soon as possible.

This may mean i may not frequent these forums for quite a while in the foreseeable future. But, Depending on the outcome/success of the help i will hopefully receive to combat this debilitating situation i have been going through, I may not even return, As i will hopefully be enjoying my life to the full, And doing alot of the things i wished i had done years ago, If i had only had the balls to do them back then.

Good bye all, Especially (in no particular order) hando, Nova, x68000, Evil Dragon, Reesy, SONY, Goity, Sam/Paul, mali and many others i can not think of at the moment.

Oh, Here`s a link to give those who are curious a small insight into what S.A.D or social phobia is about.

Wish me luck. :)

You are definitely doing the right thing by facing the problem. I wish you luck on the way to success :)
Please come back to share, even if you don't feel you are progressing at that moment. I'm sure here are people who can help and I even know one member who has the same problem(he's registered on the German boards too, but I won't tell his name, he'd have to post himself).
Taking a break from the boards makes sense.

Oh wow, I'm really sorry to see you go mate, but absolute major respect to you for getting out there and combatting this. I wish you nothing but the best of luck, just make sure you come back and visit us occasionally, I'm not sure my life would have much meaning without the handbag pic. Maybe just once more for the road?

Wow, it's sad to see you go but good to know you're tackling your problem head-on. You've been a fantastic mod here and a very polite and clever community member. See you around, trooper!

Just saying, you DO know that you can still find the time to write a few lines on the net even if you live a healthy and outgoing life? Didn't you get yourself a Panda? ;- )

Best of luck mate. Head on is always the fastest way to get results.
B!

Trooper, you're one of the nicest people around this place, I wish you good luck getting the most out of your life. Also, try your hardest to avoid treatments that try to peddle meds of any kind.

See you soon, pal :)

All the best Trooper, you're definitely a major player on these forums, which I too (almost addictively) visit on a daily basis.

I've been going through a period of MASSIVE depression myself recently, so let's both be at a better stage in a a few months time. (KEEP POSTING!!!)

Sorry to Jeff for not replying to your PM first. I feel totally done in at the moment, and will reply properly asap. BattleJewels buttons will be done!

Good luck Trooper. :) I've had a couple of friends go through this, and I know that with that right help you can completely turn things around. Hope to see you drop back in to report your successes down the track. B)

Wow, I had no idea... Well, Trooper, go right ahead, take life by the horns!

I have a friend with this, and they pretty much refuse to participate in life. I thought I was helping them for a while, but more recently I've apparently been pushing too hard and they became aggressive with me (which was very out of character for them). Don't know if I'll patch it up with my friend, but you have my utmost respect for attempting to fight through this.
