LudumDare 22 is upon us!

Only about 4 days left to get prepared (set-up your toolchain, adjust your monitor for the live footage watching others, go outside, whatever...).

The official date is the 16th of December (through the 19th of December) - at some time, better look it up at the above page.

BUT WAIT! What's that actually?

Well LudumDare (or LD48 for short) is a coding competition, mostly aimed at yourself - which means there are no prizes for the winner, you get the game you made (and a lot of internet fame), it's about finding out how creative you can be in 48 hours.

48 hours, that's the time-limit you have for creating your game (all of it! art, code and music) and you are on your own - this is a solo competition.

To make things more interesting/harder/uniform there also is a theme forced on you, which is currently voted on.

Additionally, there are a few other rules, too, better look them up yourself (you are allowed to use libraries or certain tools, though).

So, game developers, put your game development hat on! (And gamers, you might want to check out some of these streams).

Also, if you are saying, meh ...

48 hours? that's not enough time!

I have to open source my game? I don't like sharing my privates with the public!

Solo competition? I want to bring friends!

A dammed theme? I want to do whatever I want!

They even got something for you: The LudumDare JAM

Rules are a bit less strict and you have 72 hours (still not much, don't underestimate that or overestimate yourself!)

Though this won't make you as famous as participating in the competition.

Rules are also on this page, you should read them in any case.

To give you an impression of what to expect, here are the 21st entires (there is a LD every few months).

Anyway, who is in? who is watching? who did I get interested? ;)

Maybe we can get some Pandora dev talk going on here.

Every year I say "Hey, I can do this!"

And then I don't. Then I eat a tub of iced cream and cry myself to sleep at my failures. Thanks for the painful reminder, jerk. :(

The theme will be announced shortly on the site and on IRC.

if you have an account on the LD site you can still vote.

The compo starts in about 24 hours (at the time of writing).

LudumDare has officially kicked off (like 14 hours ago *ahem*).

The theme this time is "Alone".

Good luck to all participants, all others might be interested in some live streams.

I made something. It turned out crappy, but this is probably the first time in about 8 years that I made something that kinda behaves like a game.

The final results are in, here are the top-voted entries:

Here also is an older, nice article by RPS about a few submissions:

So far I only tried "Last Breath", which had some incredible nice graphics and an interesting twist to the gameplay, but sadly problems with the controls' accuracy and had me redo the easy start over and over again until I got too frustrated and quit. Still recommend it though. (http://www.ludumdare...re-22/?uid=2982)

Also played "Puppy Shelter", which was a simple and fun puzzle game for short breaks. Nothing new or special, but well done with cute, yet sarcastically cruel graphics and setting. (http://www.ludumdare...are-22/?uid=492)

Lastly tried "Drill Killer" mentioned in the RPS article... well it's bad, but also funny in the way Planet 9 is funny. (http://gamejolt.com/...ll-killer/6799/)

EDIT: Played "I am a Ninja". It's one of those rope-games (the one you got in Worms). It's okay, the rope dynamics are working well and are fun, you walk extra slowly to make you use the rope only. Your enemy are spiked wheels. The description says I am Ninja who kills people, you don't kill people in the game, I am disappointed. (http://www.ludumdare...re-22/?uid=7882)

Which ones did you play? Any recommendations or reviews?

I would fancy a link :)

EDIT: Found it, will give it a try later (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-22/?action=preview&uid=8425)
