What happened to the project of turning the GP32 into a mass storage device? Is there any progess? Or is it allready working?

I don't get it. This is probably really dumb, but isn't the GP32 already a mass storage device? It holds a lot of stuff and can be transfered to a computer. Could someone please tell me what this GP32 mass storage program can do?

A mass storage device when plugged into a computer appears as an additional drive (card readers, pen drives, and several mp3 players are examples of mass storage devices). What this software does is to make the pc os think that the gp32 is a mass storage device. This means that you can plug your gp32 into anyones computer (if it supports mass storage - most modern os's do) and will be able to read and files without having to install any drivers. It turns the gp32 into a card reader.

That is to bad :( But at least you can easely back up the entire smc card with the current version (I think, havn't tried it yet) Does anyone know if he will release the source?

Having the ability to use the GP32 as a mass storage device would be great.

This isn't exactly true, the PC would need to have FireFly's software installed on it. But still, it will be awesome.

least we wont have the 8char problem i know its been fixed in the new version but im lazy trying to download it

I thought the hacked versions of the PC Link program just renamed files to fit the 8.3 format of the SMC?

As far as I know, the 8.3 name convention is a limit of FAT 16/32, not the GP32 or the link software.

The PC doesn't need anything installing on to it, mass storage is built in (maybe not in 95, but I think it's in 98 and upwards). You install firefly's software onto your gp32.

firefly quit working on this project becuse he is unable to write files to the card. I guess he give it up.

But read speed is awesome. if you want to get a lot of files from gp32, this tool will speed up your work about ten times :)

and if you use win2k/Xp you dont have to install any driver for it. it works with any standard USB Mass Storage DEvice drivers which is preinstalled in NT5.0+

but if you use w98 then a 7kb driver is needed. I don't know if macOS needs any driver for it.

I think this project is very important for gp32 community. gp32 needs a standard transfer interface, and this is the only simple way of doing this IMHO.

ok everyone, let's beg to firefly to work on the project again :)

"Firefly Pleeeeeeasee..."
