Forever Homebrew
Hi,
I've been reading stuff recently, about some open alternatives to well-known standards, namely NVidia proprietary drivers, and Flash...
I have an NVidia 8800M GTX, and when Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" comes out, I'd like to give the "nouveau" driver a go
Does anyone here have some experience with it ? How is it performing ?
"Nouveau" is a 2D only driver (like the old "nv" one). How is 3D acceleration when using Gallium3D (Mesa3D ?), compared to NVidia official, closed-source, driver ?
On a side note, I'd also like to give Gnash a go
If I understand correctly, Gnash supports hardware acceleration through vaapi, which is compatible with NVidia's VDPAU...
It seems my card lacks VDPAU, am I out of luck with my 8800M GTX ?
Bye, and thanks for your help !
