Ogg Encoding

I have been trying to convert some large MP3 files into ogg files, and even though they sound fine on my computer-- none of the gp32 ogg players plays them well at all. I figure this must be something I am doing wrong when i am encoding them but I cant understand what it could be.

I am currently using Easy CD ripper to convert the mp3s into wav and then into ogg. the bitrate i am using is 32kb (which may be too high... i remember reading 16 somewhere) but I cant find anything that encodes lower and the problem persists at higher settings.

I have tried mono and stereo, but this doesnt help.

Any Ideas? I appreciate the help

I use dbpower amp to convert between the 2 formats.
Gives very good results and is easy to use

Which player on GP32 are you using?

Which options did you use for encoding?

How big/long is the file (in MB and time)?

Might there be a chance to get one of the Ogg in question, so that I can check this one with SvOrbis (if this bug appears in there)?

I suggest you just go to here get the music converter, get the ogg codec and just convert straight from mp3 to ogg much easier and may solve your problem if it's to dod with the encoding of the files.

sorry for my late reply... I installed a cable tv service through yahoo here in Japan... and i couldnt figure out how to reconnect the internet for a couple of days... (turns out i needed to let it sit for about 15 min... which i didnt do)...

anyway...

Im trying to convert some language courses... they are about 30 min each... and range from about 12meg to 25meg in mp3 format... and the oggs im making (converted at a bit rate of 32k stereo) come out about 2meg... each...

I have tried GPamp... the orignal version from yoyo (?) and svOrbis... but they all seem to have the same problem... GPamp was the worst one though...


like i said, im not sure if its me, or the software... all i know is the clicking isnt there on the computer... just when i use the gp32...

as for encoding options on the easy cd ripper... (im downloading the new one as im typing this.. .thank you!)

the only options i can see are that it is using

OGG 1.0 encoder plugin..
the files have a sample rate of 11025... a bit rate of 32 mono... and are in variable bit rate format...

other than that... easy cd ripper keeps the other details to itself...

as for providing a sample of the problem ogg , of course... just tell me where to send it and I will do so asap...

I've done a quick check. It seems like on 11025Hz the CPU is taking up too much load on the GP32, can't exmplain why though. I've also done some tests. Best thing would be to convert them to 22050Hz mono or stereo. If encoded with 32kBit/s the Ogg gains a little of size, but it's less than 10%.

That's the best thing I've got to offer right now. Sorry that it only involves a workaround and not a bug fix

but even though I downloaded the ogg codec, when I try to convert the files from the mp3 there is some kind of error

The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Converted Music\English for Japanese I - Unit 01.ogg.TEMP.ogg' could not be opened.

any ideas on how to solve this? or another program? Im using windows 98 and have downloaded the updates suggested by the website also...

Can't really help with dBpowerAMP. I'm using foobar2000 and vorbis-tools as already mentioned in the faq of the homepage. Links are there also. If you're experiencing trouble integrating the oggenc in foobar2000 I can help.

thanks for trying.... actually I bailed on the power amp because it just didnt want to work...

It is worth noting though that when I tried the new ogg at the settings suggested my gp32 just flat out resets... do you think I might have made a mistake in the encoding somewhere? You seemed pretty sure that those settings would work, and since its your program-- I figure you know what you are doing...

any ideas on how I could send you these problem oggs?
