I'm in a situation right now that the LCD cable broke so I have no way of knowing what's going on when I turn on my Pandora.  Is there a shortcut key or combination of keys that can enable TV out when first powered on?

if your lucky you got dropbear running, so you could ssh into your pandora and start a x11vnc session.

Nope :)

Edit:  Luckily, I've just gotten another Pandora.  But still, I think it should be part of the firmware similar to those laptops where you hit Fn+something to automatically enable video out.  Not so many users enable dropbear or even use it.

Boot and press R1

Wait 4 seconds, release R1

press 3 times down then B button (boot in CLI mode)

wait 10 seconds

type username, enter, password, enter

run something like

sudo -n /usr/pandora/scripts/op_tvout.sh -t pal -l 0
(I do not have a cable yet, so basically, I am guessing here)

Then, now that you have a visual, edit a /etc/rc5.d/autostarttv file of some sort, a linked file on your sd card.

Good luck!

edit idea for new OS release:

Press L1 while booting, will autostart a program that allows you to switch tv on or use last-known.

Cant we autostart a pnd at boot? (specific name, could give audio queues)
