I just got my gp2x today, and I was really happy. At my workplace I was able to borrow an SD card reader to put FishyNES on it and started playing Zelda right away, and it worked great.

But then when I got home I was trying to see if I just might be able to connect it to my WinXP comp via the USB cable. When it failed (no real surprise), I told the GP2X to disconnect and then pulled out the USB cable. Right when I did that the screen got all garbled and froze. I turned it off and back on, and the screen remained garbled. I turned it on and off once or twice more before it started with a white screen before going to the gp2x logo (which it now always does).

Once it came on I decided to try out the headphones, just to see if my jack might suffer from that soldering fault. The sound wasn't very good, so I took the headphones back out, and the screen froze and became garbled. Now sometimes when I start up it freezes up on the boot-up, which isn't so bad, but when I now try to play any games on fishyNES, the screen goes garbled and freezes!

I bought my gp2x from play-asia and it currently has v1.2 installed.

Please tell me it's not busted! :(

EDIT: sorry, I meant to post this in the GP2X FAQ section, could somebody please move it?

Have you tried putting in fully charged rechargable batteries? This kind of behavior usually occurs when the gp2x isn't getting enough power from the batteries, which means that either the batteries are getting low or you are using low power batteries, which don't last long in the gp2x.

Hope this helps,

... right, I edited this for you .... and I was about to say this:

"No, it's in the right section. This may seem silly, but have you tried new batteries? (I.E. Rechargeables) And don't tell me you've been relying on the pack-in set ... I wouldn't put those POS things in my remote control."

... but deadlychicken22 beat me to it. Damn you!

I initially thought of that, and so tried to test the batteries on my CD player, which said that they were still fully charged (only used the gp2x for an hour, at most). But now I tried the 2500mAH batteries I got for it, and it seems to be running fine now. Thanks a lot guys!

Heh, and here I was reading all up on it to make sure I didn't make any noob mistakes :D !
