Spambots seem to be leaking through whatever filters you've got set up. Not sure what can be done about that.

I believe filters are still disabled because I asked for it so I could sign up without executing google scripts (was required for the captcha).
Now that I'm here I could just say, enable the same filter again. But on a less egoistic note, it would be nice if people were able to sign up without having to give in to any data kraken.

I'm sure there are other options than google for securing a login mask.

There are non-google versions of the "pick an image" style captcha I believe.

This thread just sent me down a Youtube spiral of Monty Python sketches.
And you don't have the common courtesy of posting a link? You want us to be deprived of laughter?

Do you like it when we are miserable, then, you son of a silly person? I blow my nose at you.
Wait until I have digested this raw onion. Then I will fart in your general direction.

[doublepost=1470734860][/doublepost]Read this part after reading the reaction of @Caine:

Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue over who insulted who. Have some ham, have some jam. Sing from your diaphragm a lot. Dance if you are able. And when you do, try to impersonate Clark Gable.

Many thanks to the moderation team that I usually don't see any spam.

Nothing like finding advertisements for cheap Viagra on a forum dedicated to a handheld Linux gaming device, hue~

Yeah, I noticed it too. I wonder if we should restrict people without posts from creating new threads.
Not sure if it would help or just shift the problem to existing threads instead (creating a cobra-effect).

It certainly would have a negative impact on usability for new members
(assuming most new members join to ask a question, do we have statistics on that?).

Perhaps there are better measures available, but I am drawing a blank for now.

All first time posts, including in existing threads should need to be vetted by a mod before it can be displayed. Also, new members could be limited to posting only in a 'new members' section of the forum.

Edit: They would only be activated as a full member once a certain 'valid' post count has been reached.

Even if all they post is about who they are, why they are interested... and what their dog Spanky did behind the couch this morning.

Perhaps, depending on the rate of new members. The downside is that moderators also have to pay attention to valid posts. But if the majority is spam then it might work.

If moderators have to approve the first posts anyway, then this would only add inconvenience.

Just throwing things out there. All things are possible...

Perhaps the new members section could be the dirty underground where moderation is lax... spam bots might be content with someplace to post even if no serious people ever read it.

Every few weeks the place could be flushed with detergent. ..

can threads with urls (and nothing else) in the title be blocked? those bots don't seem to be very creative when it comes to naming their threads :>

Not sure if it is possible to limit the first couple posts of new members to a certain subforum, and have some part time mods that can only delete spam threads and posts in that section. I will volunteer for that if it is possible and will help out the real mods.

On the other side of that, I don't like restricting where real people can post. It is probably better to restrict new posts for a bit to avoid spam everywhere, I suppose. To help those that have questions or whatever we can create a "Pandora/Pyra Questions for Newbies" thread with links to other relevant threads and the wiki, but where they can still ask questions. The first 2 posts they make can be in the Intro thread and that one. Add a couple of the off-topic threads or something, and after 3-5 posts they get full access. It might limit the mess if they can't create new threads in the newbie subforum.

probably should just re-enable filters, since @sulu has been satisfied.

to be extra cautious, we trace the IPs of the spam bots, and send a few ballistic missiles that way.
