I sometimes use bluetooth tethering from my phone to my Pandora, which works a charm :) My question is now, as tethering isn't allowed by my provider...

Can Vodafone detect that I'm tethering? Anyone know?

I don't think so. They might be able to see that you're suddenly having abnormally high usage. I tether all the time, and it's against Orange UK's terms and conditions but they haven't said anything. I think as long as you're not pushing your fair usage allowance, they'll not be bothered.

They can't directly tell that you're tethering, but certain things will give it away. If "useragent=firefox" passes through their network, that's usually a pretty good indicator, or if you suddenly start connecting to the regular google.com rather than google.com/m/ it might put up a few flags. I knew someone who thought he was getting away with it for months, but they eventually caught him and back billed him the tethering charge for the entire time.
