I just fresh reflashed after some issues similar to a previous thread and applied the hotfix, the touchscreen was working but was off by bit to the left. I did the touchscreen calibration and restarted... now touchscreen doesn't work as an input device for anything. Is there a way to revert it back (like the nubs)? I'd be happier with a touchscreen that worked but was off than with one that doesn't work at all =\

Well, the easiest way should be a reflash. I don't know about any other way.

Problem. I reflashed. Look at this video of the welcome screen.

I'm beginning to think it's hardware related... but I'll try reflashing it again.

EDIT: I've flashed it three times, it's still doing the same thing.

Ugh, that is painful to watch. Sorry you've had to deal with it :( I'm not sure how the touchscreen communicates with the rest of the unit.. does it use the LCD ribbon? Is it something that can come loose? Hopefully a dev can give you the incantations to recite to fix the problem without shipping the unit back.

You should check the screen bezel. Maybe something is trapped between bezel and screen. If something is touching a touchscreen permanently, it disables itself. There should be no contect between bezel and screen at all.

Just tried another flash, battery only with no AC. The touchscreen worked for the intro screens but immediately stopped working the moment the wifi network notification popped up. Tried opening the touchscreen calibration utility, it doesn't register anything and remains on the first crosshair no matter where I tap the stylus. Followed this with a hard reset; still nothing.

@mali: I assume you mean the part that is actually lit up? There is a small black border between the backlit display and the black plastic frame around it.

I mean the whole surface of the screen. Lit up or not doesn't matter. The touchscreen might be lager than the lit part of the LCD, dunno. You should turn off the device and check the gap between bezel and screen for objects that don't belong there with a strong light. The bezel itself mustn't touch the screen, either.

Just checked and there doesnt appear to be anything there except an orange glow on the bottom. No foreign objects and there appears to be a proper gap all the way around.

Sounds like you need a replacement, then. Maybe it's best to wait for ED/Craig/Michael to comment on the issue. You could also fire off a mail now how to send it back, as responding will take a while.

It's unfortunate because everything else works great, I'll probably send an email later today. Thanks for trying though.

EDIT: also this is pandora number 21, just took a while to get to me in the US I guess. The low number may indicate this is one of the ones sent out before they added in the extra checks.

mmm
where you supposed to reflash the firmware, and the apply the hotfix
have the not released the firmware with the hotfix integrated

also would be best to stop playing around with the nand, boot from SD instead

The firmware is dated May 1st, so pre-hotfix. I've applied the hotfix each time.

Edit: Also I haven't reflashed since last night before I went to sleep; it's pretty obviously not the problem so I'm not wasting anymore of my NAND's writability.

Edit2: I sent an e-mail to Jaquelyn about what the return method would be (if it comes to that), but hopefully there's still an expert reply from one of the big 3 ;)

Yet Another Edit: When the touchscreen does decide to temporarily work the system behaves as though left-click is permanently held down... highlighting stuff on the desktop (or in anything really) and not letting me click anything, presumably because left click needs to unclick in order to actively click anything.

I have the same problem, except my screen has not worked at any point.

There appears to be some sort of goop in between the screen and the bezel below the screen, but a little gentle probing with a business card to try to remove it has not fixed the problem.

^ Did the goop touch the surface of the screen? If it doesn't touch it any more after pushing it with the credit card, turn the device off, remove the battery for a few minutes, put it back in and check again.

I just saw your edit. So it works sometimes. Maybe it's best to investigate the bottom part of the bezel again regarding that adhesive strip that is supposed to hold down the bezel. Maybe it's putting too much pressure on the metal frame of the LCD there. Gently pulling the bezel away from the screen might help. I'm just guessing, though.

I cleaned out the goop at the bottom of the screen, but it still doesn't work.

Any other ideas, or do I now have to wait a month to get a replacement?

Hijacked much? :p

@mali: I tried cleaning around the bottom/top already where there were the largest gaps and it didn't improve matters in any way that I could tell.

edit: also neither did pulling.

edit2: got an e-mail response:

You would return to us, I would recommend using an insured USPS service which would usually arrive within 7 days. We would either replace or repair the console as quickly as possible. When you return it please include your order number and a brief note -or print off the email below to explain the reason for the return.

Kind regards
Jacquelyn

I have a similar problem. I'm not sure it’s hardware as it was working for a quite a while. Sure it stopped working occasionally but a reboot would fix it. I’ve also reflashed a couple of times and very occasionally I can get a few seconds use out of it until I hit a shoulder button or something.

I’ve included a dmesg from boot I see a touchscreen device detected. Is there anything I can do under the hood to see if it's detecting anything?

Also I was wondering what tests were done in the “factory” and could I recreate then with the right flash or SD boot image.

Anyway I’m going to wait for a couple of iterations of the firmware before I attempt to RMA this just to see what happens.

Personally I'm mailing mine USPS international flat rate tomorrow for repair; definitely not something I'm able to deal with on this end. As far as the tests go, I doubt mine was put through most of them as it's #21 and they said they didn't put in a lot of the input/shoulder button tests until after the first hundred-ish.
