USB 3.1 Type C connector is ready for production

Maybe because we all had/have microUSB cables lying around ?
I think USB C was a thing of the future when the design was done. To me it still is, I have no device using it at the moment in my house and at work.

Ok, yeah, I just got my first pretty recently. It's hard to tell with these fad technologies but I think this one's going to stick around. The book that Quora answer cited looks pretty impressive. Just the fact that books are being written on it is kind of impressive. I'm guessing that Type-C is designed to use a digital protocol to negotiate things like OTG state and acceptable current. This complexity is probably also why it's taking a while for manufacturers to implement. Just conjecture but it would be awesome to truly standardise common physical ports. For me, the real selling point is that it doubles as DisplayPort, which can be daisy-chained and readily adapted. Version 1.2 of DisplayPort optionally supports FreeSync. It's all (probably) coming together nicely.
