I have to admit, some of the XGP specs have got me excited, I love the idea of TV out, it makes it as much of a console as it is a handheld gaming system. The larger widescreen also definantly appeals to me as well though there's so much that's unknown at this point.

Will enough people support the XGP? Emulation wise how will it do? Will devs release stuff for both XGP & GPX2?

So hard to choose. At this point the XGP has me the most excited but It seems most people here will support the GPX2 over the XGP.

TV-out is good idea. I think it will be good to make not only copy handheld screen to TV, but improve it to Nintendo DS idea, separate screens (when TV is plugged).

GPX2 interest me really alot more :)

if I would be interested by a TV out for video then I would buy a true PMP with HDD inside, & if I want to play on my TV then I use all the original machine, which sounds more conveniant for me ^^

the specs of both machines are close, but the GPX2 will surely be cheaper (which is a big point) and offer better possibilities in 2D gaming (which interest me more as a retro gamer) :)

that was my 2 cents opinion ....

I'm more than happy with the current GP32 :D. However, I may change my mind 6-12 months after the GPx2 has been launched.

:)

anyone else fed up?

yes i'm fed up with the board being littered with dumb posts about 2 systems that have not been released and is not known what and can actually run.

I'm fed up with the questions, will GBA or Amiga run on the GPX-2? NOBODY KNOWS YET BECAUSE NOBODY HAS ONE TO TRY TO CODE AN EMU!!! And its the same questions over and over again, maybe a mod could just merge all the topics into 1.

Why don't people wait until the systems are released, then ask these questions.

I dont know about you but I've been waiting for a handheld with tv-out for a while. I bought the GameAxe and Nomad for that exact reason.

Why?

Get a low-powered VHF transmitter and pilfer the TV signal at the local bars. Freaks people out when Slimeworld comes on the screen out of nowhere.

because EVERY time a new system is announced people will naturally spend the time untill it's release wondering what the new specs mean and what they might possibly see. It's a whole lot better than everyone going "meh" and not carring at all. Sure there are a lot of posts but that's because a lot of people have a great deal of anticipation for both new products and what they might possibly mean for the scene in general. not to mention the GPx2 is only like 2 or 3 months away. Just on that I'm suprised it's not causing more threads than we already have.

What a strange think to say. Gamepark Holdings wanted to create a marketing buzz, put all their cards on the table, and said this is what your getting October, and 100+ pages have been created on this, articles have been created as we speak "The return of the GP32 on this time its X2". Its already being reported on the net in several places. Go Gamepark holdings.

Although there is no need for big caps. People want added benifit from buying a new handheld, they are going to fork out it so it seems quite sensible to pose question like "full speed snes, new amiga, and GBA emulation" to those who are more knowlegeable. Otherwise its nothing more than an overclocked GP32. I personally think its more than that without the added benefits, but people who will use the GP32 primarily for emulation will obviously want to know, esp as Homebrew PSP is an attractive option. Its your post that is out of place not theirs.

how so? Can you answer if we will have full speed SNES, AMIGA, or even megadrive? Maybe on paper, but until the devs get there hands on the acutal product, nobody knows the answer, so why ask the questions over and over again. I wouldn't want to be told, Yeah it should be able to do Amiga, SNES, whatever no problem, because of the specs on paper, then get excited, buy the product, and then find out that we can't have full speed emus, for whatever reasons, the point is nobody at this time knows. Just look at the GP32. Its how much more powerful than the SNES and it can't emulate it 100%, its how much more powerful than the Lynx and it can't emulate it 100%.

Then maybe a mod can make a sticky titled, Hypothetical GPx-2 and XGP questions.

add one more and make it 3.

I'm perefectly happy with my GP32 for emulation and my psp for commercial games, so I could really care less right now about the two new systems.

well according to the poll you guys are in a very apparent minority.

People just want to know the hypothetical limites of the system so that they dont get their hopes up. a lot of people claim the 200mhz is good for what most people want and others think it'll barely improve on what we have, that's a pretty wide divide when you concider there's still a lot of work that could be done to improve the Emus we have so a stronger system should provide a better platform for realizing these aps but people are anxious to know just how much better it is. And so they post because not every post before them has answered their question or because the search function didn't help or because they didn't use it which is always inevitable on forums.

I like My GP32 and I know it's not completly spent but it IS very close to the limits of everything it's going to do Emu wise aside from lots of tweaking and recoding. I'm leaning towards the GPX2 but I want to know what to expect before I buy it. I suspect I'm not the only one.

Your post is the proof that it needs to be discussed. Some information gleaned the GPX2 could be competing with itself if the "added benefit" not enough. Plus many people can't afford 2 handhelds. I'm one of them. The GP needs to more forward or it will die.

The one that has the best scene support. I'm one of those guys that doesn't have enough money to buy both.

well in hypothetical instance, then the GPx2 is more for me than the XGP, i mean, whats the point of XGP if it is not open source? There's now way it can compete with the PSP or DS, and even probably the Gizmondo, so this system will probably die pretty quickly.

Sure I can watch me. full speed SNES, AMIGA, or even megadrive is more possible on the GPx2 than the GP32. If linux was fully utililised, there is no reson why many new emulators not come working out the box. Obviously just because of the specs in question I can comforatbly say many more games are possible in MAME than was previously hoped on the GP32. Obviously there are many issues involved in emulation, and a quick ratio of 12x power does not always apply. the lynx being a 64bit machine, the amiga having specialist hardware for graphics etc. Obviously emulators require specialist knowledge of the hardware, or a port of a current emulator from someone already has.

Lets face it nobody is completely in the dark. These emulators exist already on many different platforms, we know how powerful a machine has to be, to emulate a certain device. There is a confusion about the chip in the GPx2 two CPU's and 4 video co-processers, although most people do except that its just to its gonna be at least 2X as fast as the old one, and its not limited as much by memory problems any more, with more RAM and SD.

If no-one actually speculated about what can it be done emulation would never have existed, or much of anything else for that matter.

In fact I'm not just speculating about emulators but commercial open source games, linux games, video applications, hell whether I can SSH to the device and compile on it. Whether I can write an SDL game for linux and it will work on a GPX2 with little/no tweaking. How programs wrote in the original SDK could be moved to new platform.

Wait and see, just rubbish. If you'd compiled wesnoth with the --mini-gui flag set and said it runs using only 188Mhz and 16meg, with the halo effects turned off, this might just work on the GPX2 It would have been of better value than. Or I've bought a book in game programming in SDL is it any use, but no you wait till someone else does it. The GP32 was about having a go. The GPX2 is a better device for that. Why don't you stop *waiting* for the devs why don't you be one, its a damn sight better than I've no opion so nobody else should have one crap.

And you can't honestly tell me that my point of view of waiting til the hardware is actually released to see what it can do is rubbish. That would be the stupidest thing i've ever heard if so and I bet there are a lot of people that are NOT buying this thing until some time after it is released because they want to see what its capable of doing in real time, not on paper or in someones mind.
