wireless adapter in slackware

I have a edimax ew-7811un wifi adapter. It works fine in angstrom but in slackware it does not. The adapter is seen fine and I can even connect to my router, but I can't get any transmission. I can't ping or do anything. It says its connected but nothing happens. The internal adapter works in slackware but id rather use the edimax one as it is much faster. Any ideas?

When you're connected to your router, what is the output of (as root, and mask the mac adresses):


ifconfig


Does /etc/resolv.conf contains the good dns ?


Can you ping google.com ?


Can you ping 98.139.129.147 ?

playing around with it more ive noticed some weird behavior. If I go onling I can get a webpage to partially open, but only the first one I try. Any other sites just fail. I can ping, didnt think I could, but the ping is anywhere from 500ms to 5000ms! also I noticed that there is no dns listed under the resolv.conf.... could be part of the issue maybe?

There's the mac adress in ipv6 (inet6).


Also your access point in dmesg. Mask them ^^.


Yup that's strange.


Maybe change the mtu ?

Try to manually insert your dns in resolv.conf
 
added the dns in and changed the mtu. What I noticed is that I have fast ping times before trying to open a webpage. pinging google before trying to open a website gave me response times from 50-60ms. After trying to load a website through firefox (didnt want to open) ping times got really slow or just timed out.
 
That's weird, because it's the same kernel and modules than Zaxxon 1.52.


Unfortunately, i lost my two tiny rtl8192cu dongles, and i can't test :/.


Check the ifconfig parameters in Zaxxon to see the mtu.


Also compare the iwconfig params to see the differences.
 
May have a solution for you:


As root, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.local


Around the line 922, comment those two lines with a #


iwconfig wlan0 power off


iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M


Reboot.
 
unfortunately no. still checking results of the 2 operating systems. seems very weird
 
Check the firmware's md5sums.


If different, take the one from Zaxxon.
