There have been many posts on Gigadrive and FGEN recently, so I think that it would be good to know whether people here at GP32x prefer Gigadrive or FGEN.
I won't say anything else because i don't want to influence everyone's decisions.

Pity I can't vote for 'm both. At the moment I'll have to go with fGen, clear sound in some games, savestates (animated!), fair speed, it has everything we need aside from Z80 emulation. On the other hand, Gigadrive boasts a better compatibility atm, but we havn't seen an update since v0.023, so atm, fGen for me.

I totally agree with the previous post, i loved gigadrive and wasnt that impressed with Ryleh's xmas release of fgens but the first official release is amazing, i always use sonic to test genesis emulators and i thought it was brilliant, and the save states just tops it off (that and music in streets of rage 1!). but i would vote for them both as i have both on my smc purely for the fact that gigadrive has high compatibility and i prefer the speed and limited sound of fgens.

I agree with everybody here because savestates rock. You just can't play sonic without them. B)
Lol. The original sonic on the Mega Drive didnt have saves lol

Well I can't vote because I've been working on fGen :)

But I'm interested in the comments about Gigadrive having better compatibility... Without wanting to steal Rockout's topic, could people please let us know what works on Gigadrive but doesn't on fGen? I can't see any reason for the compatibility being different but I'll certainly look into it (as will rlyeh)

Thanks!

Robster: Good work ! FGEN has a superb sound, very very good! and with excelent performance, a true master work !

only tried Fgen and apart from a fair few games not working the ones that do are way better than i was expecting, for a first proper release it cant really be faulted, problem is my girlfriend loves sonic and is hogging my gp32_console, this wasn't part of the plan. lol.

I gotta go with FGEN. I tried it out and was very impressed! Although I heard something about savestates not working later on in development... so, as much as I love Sonic and etc., I think I will let the NES and SNES games satisfy me 'till that kink gets worked out.

*goes back to Earthbound*

Working in Gigadrive but not Fgen that I have tried:

Beyond oasis,
Elemental master,
Gunstar Heroes intro: black screen but plays music (shows intro animation in Gigadrive), title screen gfx glitched, game works.

I'd say this is a pretty unconstructive post as both emulators are still actively under development. Last week everyone would have been voting for Gigadrive (which is what I'm gonna do to balance things...).

The sound on Gigadrive is SMS all over, true, but in truth it was mainly released because people were begging for sound whatever stage it was at, and I think that we should be grateful it was released, as the developer didn't seem totally happy but did it because he likes the GP scene.

The race is far from over and I can see this heading for a dead heat. I'd be disillusioned if I was fDave seeing a poll like this...
