Serial cable to revive a Wiz

Hi guys,

I just bricked one of my Wiz yesterday while doing some test about installing/uninstalling a spare launcher in place of GPH one then reflashing 1.2.6 firmware. I found a software and a pdf document explaining how to build a serial cable but I don't understand everything about it and my soldering skills are inexistent TBH. I lost a few devices in the past trying to do that (ask my GBA...).

So my question is: would someone sell/lend me a serial cable modified for the Wiz (or could do it for me) so I can revive my device? Would be much appreciated. BTW I live in France.

Of course, I would pay whole shipping cost with an extra bonus for the service, be sure of that. :)

By the way, I have a JTAG for the GP32 but it's a 18pin connector, not 24, and I assume that the pin order is not the same at all anyway, but I can still exchange this JTAG against a Wiz one if someone is interested.

Thanks a lot.

Sorry don't have any answer for your problem.

I have a Caanoo and a spare usb compatible cable (for E810) unmodified, that i could send to you if you didn't find elsewhere.
I bought some years ago with the intent to change the pins and made another TV-Out cable for my Caanoo, but never used or modified.

Are you sure it is bricked? Does the screen show anything at all? Most problems with firmware updates are usually due to the SD card being used...

I have a cable and could try to reflash your Wiz (I'm in Germany), just want to make sure it is necessary.

Ah good news! :)

Yes it's definitely bricked, and nothing appears on screen, totally black screen. Pressing R on startup does do anything anymore.
My sd card works perfectly and I flashed all of my Wiz a few times already.

Would you be interested in selling your cable or do you prefer to "just" unbrick mine?

I'm offering to unbrick your Wiz (or at least give it a try), I don't want to get rid of the cable. Actually, there is no cable as such, it consists of the whole ensemble you see (or don't see, the quality of the photo is poor) in the post i linked to - the connector soldered to a ribbon cable and a 2.54mm header, then wired together on the bread board with the pulldown resistors and a USB serial port interface.

If you are interested, I can PM you my address.

Hello, I know this is an old thread. Wish I would have found this before attempting to update the firmware of my wiz and bricking it, but its happened so here I am. Was wondering if you can maybe provide some more detailed explanation or photos of how to make the serial cable? I am an experienced tech so should be able to do it but having a little trouble with the original documentation. Thanks so much for the people who contributed to fixing these, I am really bummed about bricking mine and I don't give up easy so hoping to bring it back to life, any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You need an EXT port connector (I got mine from a Samsung E720/E810 compatible data cable, see also here), and some kind of serial port interface. I successfully used a USB serial port adapter operating at 5V I/O levels (RX/TX). A 3.3V level interface may also work (and in fact be preferable), but I'm not sure. You only need to connect RX/TX/GND from the serial interface and pull down the boot mode lines as described in the document.

Everthing else you need is in the pack (original thread here).
