While I am not suggesting anything I was just wondering.. What would be the effect of having the ASM Cyclone core put in CaSTaway? Obviously the speed would be smokin' but I wonder what the effect of the known Cyclone bugs would be? Would it effect compatibility not as bad or worse than Gigadrive? I am not sure if the ST uses the 68000 in a different way than the Genesis that would make a difference in compatibility.

I've offered skeetix a free 166mhz GP32 BLU if he implements it :) or for that matter if anyone does!

well the CaSTaway 13.2 source is available to download from codejedi and im sure fdave would oblige anyone who asked for cyclone, so if skeezix is too busy i dont see why someone else with time and motivation couldnt have a go

*g* For me its just a funciton of free time; I hope to do it in a bit, but I'm just being killed right now in many directions. (Running your own business is like that :) (and the bloody government came to kick the taxboot into my arse a little while ago, so theres the next couple weeks shot :/)

Last time I toyed with Cyclone it wouldnt' boot TOS and so it wasn't useful at all, but at the same time I did it very quicvkly so its likely I didn't put it into place correctly, or some of the modifications ot the 68k core in CaSTawya need to be directly added to Cyclone in order for it to work. So it might take a bit of time to work it all through.. or maybe its a 1 night addition :)

Someone get me the latest Cyclone core from fdave and mebbe I'll take a looksie again.

Wow that is a hell of an offer  . Now only if I could code :(

I just re-discovered Castaway again as I have neglected it on the GP32 as I simply haven't got around to setting it up well with stuff after getting my BLU. It used to look kind of washed out on my regular GP32 but gamma is perfect for the BLU so now I like it better :) This is what got me wondering about Cyclone as I was thinking if it would work with it. The ST had some cool games for it.

What I really would like to know is this:

Is there some kind of utility that can read individual files off of a .ST disk image file and save them to my PCs harddrive? Then create a blank disk image and put the files that I wan't back in a disk image? What I want to do is take my favorite games off of those compacts, and put them on my own virtual compacts. This way I can have the good games on the limited space of an SMC and not waste any space with the dodgy ones. Plus is there a menu writer that allows you to create a simple text menu that autoboots? Does anyone know of a good .ST disk image utility for a Windows PC as well? Thanks.

Use Steem, set up a virtual harddrive.

Load steem to gem desktop, insert floppy, double-click the A: and drag the files to C:, exit steem and browse to the virtual HD folder and there you will have the files from the disk images.
Simple. Although I don't think it will be that easy to make your own compact discs from these files as they are compacted.

I have found a way to get the files off of the disks now. I used MSA converter to add them back but for some reason it says that the disk is full even when it shows disk space is available, must be a bug.

I looked at the files and noticed on the Automation disks that games were renamed. for example: plutos.was I pulled it off and renamed to plutos.prg. Some seem to work fine that way others will bomb the ST. I don't know why yet. I also might try to hexedit the menu that is on there to add the games I want. I already looked at the file through a text editor and it looks pretty straight forward.

I wish there was a single utility for easily manipulating .ST images like adding files, deleting files, hex editing, formatting, etc. from the disk image through my PC. There might be one but I haven't found it yet. Using emus like STeem and such work but that is a multi stage and multi program task that is a bit cumbersome and tedious.
