Hi Guys,

Just remembered reading one of the Gurus sites (I think it was Rob Brown) about reading the battery voltage using one of the GPs onchip AD converters (Analogue to digital).

It was as easy as soldering a wire from the battery to one leg of the CPU.

Rob (sorry if it was someone else) also mentioned that there were multiple legs of the CPU that could be used - I think it was one of three that was being used.

Isn't an analogue joy basically two pots (variable resistors) one for the X and one for the Y? Well, even if it wasn't what about designing a small one that works in this way and can be 'clipped' on to the side of the GP, connecting via a small plug (like a headphone socket) to the two wires connected to the CPU.

It does mean that software would have to support it. But hey, the chatboard started from nothing too....

yaeh, we have 2 free ain's but as you sayd the software have to support it, and you would have to solder at the µc, buying a chatboard is much easyer, i dont think that many guys would do that mod. and alsodigital joystickt is enugh for most games, for older games analog movement sucks, it would only be good for 3d games.

I agree digital joystick is better for games. But for apps like wind-ups, some sort of analogue control (or fake analogue like a mouse or trackball) would be great.

On a different note, what about wiring the 4 directional buttons to an external port, and allowing control from a different source?

Idea in this case would be a small thumb trackball hooked up to the same circuitry as the directional pad.

Of course, once again you would have to write a driver/software specific

You might be able to use a USB mouse/trackball with gpLinux. As for Windups, etc. - I agree, it should have a config which allows you to change the polling speed of the joystick (which is entirely possible).
