first of all, dont get a 6600gt, thats a step in the wrong direction
Im guessing your a gamer?
How much do you want to spend??
140 US$$ and down?? get a 5900xt - great card ( what Im gettin soon ) friend has - cant say enough bout this card
180 US$$ and down?? get a 5900 Ultra or a 5950 - slighty better cards, specially for AA and AF
250 US$$ and down?? get a 5950 Ultra - runs nice in Doom 3 on high at 880x600 - 1024x768
300 US$$ and down?? get a 6800 - friggin awesome card - some run hot, might need a NV5 silencer
400 US$$ this is the cut off point - get a 6800gt or a 6800gt oc - best value to money ratio on the market
period
and dont worry, there will be minimal differance between PCI express and AGP
as long as you have a 4x AGP slot, you can make a bitchin gamin' rig
but dont get any 6600 if you want to game
never buy a 128 bit card anymore , its just to big of a perfomnce loss
also, till you get into the 6 series cards, there is little differance between 128-256 meg version

if you need more explaning let me know, but just trust me on this

PS whats the rest of ur computer's specs??

whyd u pay that much??
In the US ebay, there is no suction higher than 135 USdollars for the xt
or is there almost no differance between the 2 curencies??

---edit---
first of all, let me say that you should try and not get the Aopen or PNY versions, as other ones have had a little faster things that these, specially the BFG , XFX, and MSI ones ( friend has the MSI one, it rocks )

secondly, get a cooler for it, you can get it quieter and faster with a NV3 silencer

ok?, heres a nice review that shows the power of the FX5900xt card
here
please note, that all this good performance is coming from a 120$ card , not a 450$ behemoth
this is aimed for the average user, so no, performance wont be anywhere near the x800 or 6800ultra, but thats cause its so much cheaper, over 200$$

also, all benchmarks are done on highest settings unless mentioned
there are some settings that you can turn off to speed up games
for example, I never play with decals ( bullet marks on surfaces )
It eats up a shitload of GPU and CPU and lowers framrate a lot, and they look crapy
plus, you usually dont even notice them there or not there
basicly, at 1024x768 ( typical gaming resolution for typcal gamers with midrange cards ) all games out are playable on high but some things might need turned off
but youll get that on any not top-of-the-line card

heres a demo showing a lot of cards playing Doom3 on random settings
Add about 3-5 frames to each score to compensate for driver updates and game updates, but take off acordingly based on your rig vs their rig
here
Lok at ths page specificly to see why anything lower than the 5900 series is just not worth it ( has the Fx5500 in this page )

I have so much more proof that the 5900xt is the best, cheap card on the market
cheap = 150 or less ( usually they go 130-140 on ebay.com )
and it has Pixel shader 2 so its still up to par with all of todays game, and tomorows games for a while while you save for a 6800gt

PS. the 5900 xt is about 180 off of newegg.com, If you buy there, get the MSI one, its sweet

hmmm
didnt know there was really an agp version of the 6600...
( I thought that the 128 bit path would hurt the performance, but the gddr3 pulls out on top of that )
well then, fill in the 5 series cards on the above list with the 66xxxx series cards ok?
sorry, I guess I am not the videocard guru I thought I was
well, off to study!

ok, since newegg dosnt sell the 6600gt, where can I get them from a store and what is their average store price???

thx

~Octavious

but if the price is close to the standard 6800 go for that instead

Ebuyer doesn`t sell the 6600 either, So the nearest 6800gt card is over £200 + vat. Thats £100 more that the 5900xt card i`ve just bought.

Too much for a graphics card for my pocket, I think i`ll stick with the 5900xt for now. ;) A substantial improvement on my current Geforce 4 Ti200 from the info i have seen. Plus i can not see the point of paying much over £100 for a new card imho.

ok, here's my new AGP card list

140 US$$ and down?? get a 5900xt - great card ( what Im gettin soon ) friend has - cant say enough bout this card
180 US$$ and down?? get a 5900 Ultra or a 5950 - slighty better cards, specially for AA and AF
250 US$$ and down?? get a 6600gt - runs nice in Doom 3 on high at 880x600 - 1024x768
300 US$$ and down?? get a 6800 - friggin awesome card - some run hot, might need a NV5 silencer
400 US$$ this is the cut off point - get a 6800gt or a 6800gt oc - best value to money ratio on the market

~Octavious

( im still gettin the 5900xt cause Its a between card for me , I dont want to spend 250 for a go between card, I just want something that will play all games on high with decals and maybe one other thing off )
