Well, I'm a big fat newbie with my gamepark. Got it a few days ago. So far I've put GPEngine and VSGBGP (think thats the name anyways) on for emulation, xRick and wolf3d for some old school, and a bunch of mp3s on a brand new 128mb SMC...

oddities, however. i was showing the little handheld wonder off to a coworker, and he turned it off while playing r-type. now, the rom won't load. i did this a few more times to see if turning the gp32 off while playing a rom will fry the rom. rtype 2 and salamander went down, twinbee and tiger stayed alive.

thought about it some more, and formatted the card. you see, when i've been sending over mp3s, every 3 to 5 megs, something stutters. if it stutters on a rom, the rom usually won't play (r-type 2 would, but its graphics were mangled). if it stutters during an mp3, the mp3 usually won't play. if it does play, it will get to whatever point it stuttered at, tweak out the mp3 player and either freeze the gp32 or the mp3 player will skip to the next track.

the problem for me here is that i'm a huge essential mix fan (i wish we had radio 1 in the US). most of the mp3s i want to put on the gp32 are 60+ megs :(

i've been using the default gamepark software to xfer things over. does this long rambling post sound like a pc problem, a gp32 problem, an smc problem...?

also, i seem to have a problem getting the GBC emulator to consistantly save! i'd been looking forward to finally getting a chance to play through seiken densetsu 1 at work! i was pretty sure that the save testing i had done would keep the save file through a reboot of the machine, but when i loaded up the rom last night, i was a little miffed at seeing the name input screen.

so anyways, any suggestions?

thanks for putting up with a gp32 newb!

I think you are trying to associate the stuttering with your rom/mp3 problems - but I think the problem is elsewhere. It is perfectly normal for the pc-link to 'freeze' every 2 megs or so when sending files.

For the GBVSGP problem, going back to the ROM list will automatically save your current game, -then- turn off. Basically the 'save area' of the cartridge is not dumped to the SMC until you go to the rom list.

Good luck,

- Rico

ah, ok, thanks rico :) i'd been jumping out to the rom list then pretty much instantly turning it off. probably why thats been happening.

anyone know why mp3s would be stuttering/freezing?

that's due to bitrate changes
use the new mp3 player beta and you should be fine

I have had the same probs.. as a result need to format the card every other day as one or other roms will not work and i get progress eror.. I think getting a Smart media adaptor to transfer the files may help..!

Try a diffrent dump of the rom? If it never worked, either it isn't compatible w/ the emu or you have a bad dump.

well... i tried the new mp3 player beta... same things still happening. even downsampled the mp3s to 112kbps.

tried a different SMC too :(

its sorta frustrating, as i was hoping to use it as an mp3 player till i get ahold of a harddrive unit for portable music :(

sorry to dredge this up from the past, but i'm hoping someone else might have an idea for me to try.

edit: just tried the XP USB driver... every song so far has tweaked out and died :(

Most of the time a card reader solves this sort of problem.
And if you want to transfer lots of 60+MB files a card reader would come in handy anyway (much faster).

ya, think i'm going to try that.

before i buy one though, going to try to use my digital camera. uses SMC's also, and i've never had corruption problems moving large files on to it.
