Anyone's Into Goth Rock?

Eheheh It's not too bad, could be worse..
To name a few: Bauhaus, Siouxsie, The Cure, Joy Division, Killing Joke and a few more were the forefathers of Goth (not goth themselves... Post Punks is more like it) :p

I also listen to pretty much everything, so... I'm handing in a proposal for another show just of Japanese visual rock / J-Rock / J-Pop / Anime music eheh :p

Joy Division is one of my favourite bands ever. Love Will Tear Us Apart is the most powerful song, I just love it.

The Cure are alright but I prefer their less commercial stuff, Love Cats just pisses me off, but the paranoia that shines through in A Forest is really nice.

I don't like Bauhaus to much, a bit mechanical I prefer my music to have a more human face. Literally and musically.

I recently rediscovered the Distillers. More punk than goth I think, but any band with a female vocalist gets my attention anyway (speaking of, have you heard garbages new album...its average at best)

Yeah the distillers are definitely more punk than goth. If not totally :p but hey... Joy Division (as warsaw), cure (as easy cure), and early siouxsie were punks too! goth was born out of punk.. :p At least true goth, not the cliché stuff you read it's goth such as manson and evanescence and rasmus and whatever-their-name-is, which truly isnt. Same for NIN but NIN are cool! But not goth :p

As for Garbage's album, I haven't heard it yet, but I'm professionally curious to listen to it because of the production (I'm an audio engineering graduate). Butch Vig is one hell of a producer.

New Garbage album is more akin to the first album. "Bleed like Me" is a stand out track for me.

As for Butch Vig - the guy is a legend for producing Nevermind, Siamese Dream and Garbage too.

Oh yeh ultimate "goth" rock band w/female vocalist if you get to hear it is Human Waste Project. They were so f'n awesome. Aimee Echo was lead singer (she's now in theStart), I also think they did a collaboration with Korn at one time.

I think they only recorded one song with Korn (This Town). Excellent song, but often listed as being Korn + Kittie for some strange reason.

I was into Goth shit like the Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus in the 80's and now as an adult I see it as the worst music genre ever and I am thouroughly ashamed of ever liking that stuff. Teenage angst and mysticism for people with no real worries in their lives.
I prefer to listen to James Brown nowadays, but I can see (and cringe at) why young people are drawn to that pompous crap.

I think the dressing up is a bit well dodgy. But I like anything guitar based that has good riffage. So that can include "goth rock" or it can be straight up Rock and Roll.

BIG PLUG: Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation - its awesome. (I should have posted in the other thread, but dont want to spam  )

Eheheh I'm not a kid anymore either. But I have to agree most of the people into it are trash. I've met loads of people in the London scene as well and they're pretty much all pricks :p

Only now I noticed you're from Finchley.. I used to live in Muswell Hill :D
