Is Doom still being developed? It works great (faster than the GBA version), I installed the Ultimate Doom wad and now have all three episodes.

However (isn't there always a however?), the lack of sound, saves and cheats puts a crimp in serious Dooming.

I wonder if It would be possible to import saved games from the PC version (with cheats turned on)? I will try this tonight, if I have time.

I like to drop into serious monster territory, Nightmare level, with all the weapons and just blast until I get wacked. It's a great way to waste a few minutes.

Hows the mame port going craig? - what will be emulated ? any chance of seeing tecmo world cup?

I was talking to Tom Forsythe a week or 2 ago about his doom port, he told me that he probably will not have the time to finish it as he was developing for the new Nokia phone.
He did say however that he will release the source code for it soon for others to finish :)

A finished Doom port will really help the GP32 (and please me greatly). I was interested in taking this on myself when the source code was released but other commitments have pretty much put a stop to that.

well if you can get a copy of that and send me it i'll sort it in a few days hopfully (unless he has hacked it to bits ;)

MAME - i've been really busy with real life BUT i have pretty much now got all the allegro commands ported to the gp32 which should speed things up greatly for me (mame is an absolute bastard to port btw), not only with mame but with all projects - and yes, i'll be releasing the allegro style lib + a load of example code.

Also i'll be releasing some more ported stuff soon now i can use allegro commands.

Craig: Just emailed Tom and he said he will release the source as soon as possible (next week or so) and post it on his site :)

a fully functioning Doom port would be great! something to show off the power of gp32, make it better than heretic

I had never heard of allegro until (thank you Google) a minute ago. It looks good.

How much overhead does it impose? The floating point and 3d functions should help with a lot of games.

or how about the QUAKE source code - which is readily available - but it depends how your ability to use ARM assembly? -- thought someone would be more likely to pick up on Quake(as it is the best 3d shooter!)

It would be fantastic if you can make a port of Gens (genesis emu). It is open source.

Any hints on what sort of ported stuff....?

... or should we wait and be suitably impressed, surprised or shocked when releases appear ;)

I prefer Doom to Quake actually, it's much more satisying to play and it's much more nostalgic. Nethertheless, they're both incredible games and no 3D shooters now can touch on how good they were when you first played them.

I could not get quake to run, has anyone managed? it just hangs when you start the game i left the gp32 on for a good half hour but nothing happened.

I'm looking forward to your Allegro style lib, so I can do some game of my own! ;)

I think Craig was waiting for the code to be given to him first? I may be wrong?
