I know in some instances of brand name computer memory makes a difference on speed and reliability, usually depending on where it was made. Is SD media the same? There is a 2GB RiDATA SD card that I'm looking at, but for a little more there is a SansDisk branded one. I use RiDATA DVD+r's and like them, but not sure about their SD media.

So anyway, what is every ones favorite brand of SD cards? Which ones last for the most read/writes? Any stories of particular brands failing quite often?

Thanx,
Stan

I preder RiData over Sandisk to be honest... The Sandisk are slow for the money, and over the years of using SD memory in Palm, PPC and Cameras I have cards from Sandisk, RiData, TekQ and Kingston. The only ones I have had fail are Sandisk ones. One failed got replaced for free as under warranty and then the replacement failed 6 months later, so I switched and have had no problems since...

Everyones experiences different though I guess? But testing the speeds on my benchamarking app on PPC, the Sandisk were always the slowest per price bracket.

I had a Sandisk SD die on me too last year, I just got around to sending it in for a replacement which will probably go towards the 2X. But I doubt it's an indicator that all their stuff will crap out.

I'd simply go for a cheaply priced card from a company you trust.

My experience from SMCs is that a lot of these are being made by a lot of the same factories, Some of them are probably made by the exact same company as whoever makes SanDisk or Kingston's cards.

not sure about kingston but i know that sandisk manufacture their own cards and they are usually the ones who either invent or calloborate with electronic manufacturers on things like sd and cf.

Does anyone know where I could buy an sd card thats 2gb and as cheap as possible? (Sorry to bump this thread, but it seemed silly to make a new one with this here.)

Edit : Preferably from the uk, if one corrupts I want to be able to send it back easily lol.
