Great work,

Downloaded to my desktop! :)

Thanks very much woogal :D

After a weekend of mainly negative and downhearted posts about the GP2X it's good to have something positive for a change!

Great!

But the the news on the front page first suggested me Quake2!
I was like, what the hell, Quake2 already!!!

So, is it called 2xquake or quake2x?

It's called anything you want to call it ;) The gp32 version was called gpQuake so I couldn't use that again, so I'm calling it 2xquake.

Oh, and quake2 will be out tonight if I get time to finish it off. Too slow to be playable at the moment though.

Nice.

I hope a GP2X emulator's made soon so that we don't have to use digital cameras for screenshots anymore... And the obvious help it would be for devs, too. :p
Actually quake has a built in screenshot command, but I can't be bothered taking any more screens as it just looks the same as any other version of quake running at 320x240 ;)

Great News!

How does it run compared to the Quake port for the GP32?
gp32 at 156mhz got around 8.4fps average with demo1. gp2x gets around 11.2fps average. Zodiac got 10.4 last time I tried it, but that was hardware scaling up from 320x240 to 480x320, so the gp2x speed is about what I expected for an early port.

Whats the control scheme like?

I was thinking that for FPS which require looking all about (up down left and right) you could use the abxy for movement and the stick to look around. Someones probably already said this before, but meh.

You can certainly define the controls like that if you want to. By default the stick is movement, and to look up and down you hold down right shoulder, which I prefer as quake is pretty flat and you don't really need to look up and down much.

That sounds very similar to the Metroid Prime control scheme. It's unexpected but I'm sure it works well. :)
