how many other threads are there where people complain about problems, unsubstantiated rumours and lies?
You really didnt need to start another.

GPH was put in a really difficult position. They're a small company and cannot afford to lose many pre-orders. Yet, when they announced a small delay to fix a USB issue, a lot of people threatened to cancel their orders (and a few actually did). I'm sure they feared that if they delayed again to fix the remaining firmware issues, they would lose more pre-orders, possibly enough to put them into serious financial difficulty - if they aren't already under financial stress.

Personally, I'm not worried about this. Every problem that has been confirmed is something that can be fixed in firmware. GPH has not been idle while the units have been shipping - I'm sure they're working on the firmware right now. And considering most of us are still a few days away from actually recieving ours, I doubt many will have their units for more than a few days before the first firmware update is made available.

I actually prefer this myself - while the units are on their way to me, the firmware is being enhanced, so that the moment the firmware is good I get the full functionality of the system. Otherwise, I would be waiting several days for shipping after the firmware gets fixed. As it stands, we'll have fully-functioning units sooner than we would have had if GPH had waited untill all the issues were ironed out.

That said, if they had waited for the firmware issues to be solved, I would not have been angry either.

Bottom line, they were pretty much backed into a corner, partially of their own doing (they announced a time frame for shipping when they weren't sure), partly of the way people interpreted their announcements (people expected it to ship in the suggested time frame, even though they wrote the announcement in such a way as to merely suggest, not guarantee, shipping within that time).

Now would be a good time to stand behind them, IMO. They seem to be genuinely trying to please their customers, and I have faith that they will pull through and that soon we will have a great handheld with solid firmware and a thriving development community that is already taking shape. I would much rather support a small company like GPH through a rocky start than support a company like Sony who is actively trying to take away our freedoms.

I would rather have my unit now to play with and then update it later. Until the battery issue is fixed go and buy a $6 adaptor to run it off of. It will all be fixed eventually, and maybe if you get it in the hands of the public they can help fix issues faster since it's open source.

Thanx,
Stan

Apparently, you only read the words "glitch", and "problem", and missed the "minor", "fixable", "firmware" and "no big deal".

technically it's a big glitch but it should be one thats simple to fix.

Unless of course it means they have to actually program in the CPU scaling function rather than just change the default value...

No offense but I've just started keeping track of this forum again a couple days ago, and I've already seen way too many topics with people going all panicky, and then other people explaining why there's no reason to panic, again and again... So are you sure you really did "check more and more" here? Or did you mean you barely read anything at all at first, and now you still don't read a lot but it's more and more anyway? Seriously, try to just read some of the other threads before you make yet another panic post.

For the one who got the first-batch GP2x in Korea, I am honestly just satisfied.

I was also very worried when I read the posts on official site, but I found how their expectaions are so high when I got the machine.

For me, who just have had one handheld so far(GBA-SP), this one is amazing, it has smaller size, bigger screen and lighter weight than I've imagined from the posted pictures.
And I'm not sure I'm so lucky, but my beauty has no single glitch what they complain (yes, the buggy kernel is still problem though) It has clean LCD and ok headphone jack, etc.

(Even Batteries INCLUDED! Hullah!!)

I believe the 2Gig issue and power-save, buggy-movie player problems are just matter of time and I can wait.

and also I'm sure most of you will be satistied too :D

EDIT: Isn't 2hour+ battery-time okay with no-optimise kernel (no clock control, no backlight control, when play snes-beta) ? might much better soon though.

Yaq.. some guys said with his 2500ma batteries that it only lasted for 2hours. Also i hear of a digital stick problem now ... EWWW oh well im still gunna buy one they have warrenties :p jeje

Way to ride the fence, Drak.. *laughs*

I have alkaline rechargables and they're not even close to the 2000+mAh batteries most people are using, but they save me a bit of money and I get lots of charges from them. (And I like being environmentally friendly of course)

I can carry 2 sets of extra batteries with me in a pocket or something, and I don't mind switching out now and then.

which guy?
Where did he say it?

I'm not claiming he didnt, but when spreading rumours like this it is a good idea to give a source....

OCA is right. They probably should have announced the unit and accepted preorders a little later, and given themselves the time to iron more wrinkles out of the unit, but I suppose its too late for that. Oh well. The suspense probably reeled alot of us in though ;-)

And as MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID, all of the said problems are fixable with the firmware. I've seen this in at least 8 different threads now. Its FIXABLE PEOPLE, all you have to do is download the cute little patch GPH will surely have out days after we get our units.
