I was going to post this in the original thread but it has over 300 posts and getting a little long. BTW, leave DaveC be, especially since it makes the thread grow too big.

A word of advice before I link to the newest release(s) of GP2PSX. Always test a game using the original ripped BIN first, if possible. I just found out I've been testing with a bad rip of Final Fantasy Tactics today. I ripped the CD with PocketISO and must of ripped out too much stuff. So just so you know, these release(s) of GP2PSX might not be as good as they could of been since I was attempting to scale down optimizations to fix a bug that never existed. :p

This release of GP2PSX version 0.10, as just mentioned, plays Final Fantasy Tactics, which uses 3D scenery.
This is more of a "preview" version of what's to come. There is currently no alpha blending in this GPU core and there are a few bugs to be sorted out. For instance, when loading FF TACTICS the Squaresoft logo isn't shown, and instead shows a full screen fade in and out. There is also an issue or two with the ability to load textures at times.

You should notice quite a bit of speed increase in 2D games, and the ability to play more 3D games at around 20+ FPS.

So if you can put up with odd graphical bugs at times, this should be a good release to check out.

All in all, this new GPU core allows the ability to play 3D games, and faster 2D game rendering.

For those testing out games on the boards and wiki, 3D game testing would be appreciated since I only tried out FF Tactics for that task.

HLE has it's debut in this release of GP2PSX. It doesn't seem to help much yet, though it might in some games. To activate HLE, hold down the L or R trigger while clicking the X button to select a game to run. Make note of whether HLE is being used on the compatibility lists. Thanks! Oh yeah, you won't need that spch1001.bin file if you use HLE. :)

I'll be reading through all the posts and PMs received now. Will respond to them shortly.

Btw, while writing this I changed some code and made the emu slightly faster Buster Bros Collection now runs at 60 FPS with only 2 frameskip at minimum compared to 3 before. Not sure how much speed increase FF Tactics got yet.

Does this improve the compatibilty or does the new gpu core just speed up already compatible games?

I can't say for sure about compatibility. I should run more 3d games. It shouldn't break any existing titles.

I hope this release doesn't disappoint. It's still a work in progress.

I have a question, not sure if it was answered yet, but have you been able to use both CPUs or is this still only one?

i hope everyone will re-test the games they have tested on the Wiki as much as they can when a new version has been released, keep everyone up to date.

Time for a trip to the bargain bin at Gamestop ... :D

Thanks very much!

Seems cool. Id be playing FF Tactics rite now if I got my Gp2x :p 1-3 days till I get it yay.

Oh and heres just a silly idea:

Is it possible to add mp3 or wav support to play in the background like the NEOGEO CD emu has? Or is that too much? cause listening to something while playing would be sweet since i dont got a mp3 player since im poor

Cant wait to play tactics, heh.

EDIT: I hope my unit isnt faulty.

I think I love you.

So what am I so afraid of ... :D

Anyways, thanks for the tip about using the original bin. I think that's why my games hasn't work or showed a blinking green/ black screen. I've been using pocketiso compressed bin.z.
