How many people bought the GP32 for its emulators?

I bought it because it has so many capabillities, mp3, movie, homegrown scene and emulators. Since I bought it I have discovered that it's much better than I thought. And all the people involved in the homegrowned scene, deserves standing ovations. Thank you for making the GP32, the machine of possibilities! Stand up and take a bow! :D

I bought mine because the geek in me could not resist the temptation to program (badly) for it ;).

Saying that, it has become far more appealing a toy then I could have guessed and a lot of the emu’s are very, very cool. As are the few commercial games I have bought.

I bought it because I thought it did everything it doesn't i.e full speed Genesis, GBA, snes(I read some false info somewhere)............still without those things I love it to bits

It's also a chick magnet (trust me it is!)

Sadly this is the reason I bought it too. :( Although I am having a field day with the PC Engine emulator.

The movie playback is a VERY big bonus. I don't listen to music so the mp3 don't do much for me.

I like the memory card capabilites also :D :D :D

I must say though, there are some DAMN fine looking RPG's avaliable, if only they did them in English :(

But yeah, emulators for me and movie playback

A lot of people buy it because of that. When I heard it could emulate genesis, snes, gba, nes, gb/gbc I thought it could emulate all of them perfectly. So I bought it.

I always assumed it evokes the perhaps unfair assumption that you are too nerdy to even leave your computer when you go out, so you bring it with you.

I'm wearing a flame-retardant suit here - this isn't my personal opinion, just the popular one. GBA accepted, stupid mobile phone games more accepted, PocketPCs and GP32s seemingly not.

i think we can all agree that the GP32 is a pretty super-dorky thing to own - hell you have to be certifiable to even get the thing up and running.

but that doesn't mean it's not cool as hell, in and of itself - besides, being computer savvy is certainly a lot more in vogue than it was 15 years ago (if that matters to you).

Actually I'm not as Nerdy as I'd like to be and I seldom actually use the GP32 as a portable gaming device, I only ever really use it at home. However when it has followed me to work/school women love it, you just stick on video of anything in GPcinema and they're hooked or you fire up a C64/SMS/ZX game and watch them bask in nostalgia and confess that they actually owned one of those systems in their youth.

Anyway from my short experience of life I've found that my nerdish ramblings impress more than confining me to a corner of a room.

Maybe I just know odd people.

Whatever the case I think GP32 is more respected and accepted (whenever its around) than the GBA or phone games because nintendo's king handheld is slipping more and more into the toy section of the Argos catalogue everytime a new season is issued, as are phone games.

I don't know what it is about the GP32 but I definately think open source means alot more than we think it does. <_<
