Actually, I have solved the problem! Just get IN THE FREEZER, and take your GP32 with you. Of course you will need a FLU because, yes, when you close the door the light DOES go off.
 
For those who haven't guessed yet - this was just a joke! :D

Got myself a new overclockable GP32 today and was in a silly mood!!!

Probably no room for a heat sink. Never looked inside a GP32 so I don't know how much space there is...

However a Peltier element is very thin, has no moving parts and uses relatively little current. It depends on how much cooling is required (assuming the resets/lock-ups are caused directly by processor overheating), but judging by the variety of different results between overclocked machines I feel that only a small amount of temperature control would be enough.

You have a light in your freezer - I'm feeling well gutted now - Only gone one in the fridges! :(

I'm off to look for a new freezer now!

How did you know how to get an overclocklable GP32. Is there a way to tell, or were you just lucky.

Heh, wouldnt playing the game on your computer or on a console be a little more convenient than putting your gp32 in a bag in the freezer?
 
:D Twimfy: I've spent weeks emailing every Ebay GP32 seller going askng if their GP32 clocks. Plus my messageboard posts on here!

This is my 4th GP and it had to be right!

Dead chuffed - 166Mhz FLU!! Think it might have a *slight* Trapezoid effect though...

Bohica, yes a pelt is thinner, but it requires an even bigger heatsink. Never run a pelt without a heatsink on the hot side otherwise you'll probably melt the leads off.

Secondly they require around 18 volts to work. Another 12 AA batteries :D

This thread does pose the question...can a heatsink help even more. :rolleyes: Here we go...

Open the GP32.
Take a ThermalTake BlueOrb, CrystalOrb, CopperOrb or similar small heatsink.
Stick it to the CPU with Arctic Silver Epoxy.
Replace the lead's molex header with a jack socket.
Get a 12volt power pack, plug in jack plug.
Play game.
If you're on the move, you won't be able to play at full overclock rate, but as you'll have a better heatsink than the stock one (if there is one) you'll be able to play at a higher rate than normal.

Problems with this...
Batteries. When playing a stressful program (CaSTaway or Doom for example) the batteries get hot, this makes me think the hottest chip (presumably the CPU) is directly behind the battery enclosure, so the batteries need to be moved. No a major problem.
What if the CPU isn't the sticking point when it comes overclocking a GP32? What if another chip is the problem?
And obviously...
The case wouldn't fit on the back.

How much space is there in there though? Would these fit?

Add vents to the bottom of the GP and to the top. Lose any sort of dampness protection and warranty, but gain some convection cooling (mounting them so the fins are vertical).
 
I re-read today on Darkfader's GP32 info page something i had forgotten:
It's the memory chip that prevents you from running your GP at higher speeds, not the CPU.
According to Darkfader, the CPU can handle fequencies up to 187Mhz, but the memory is limited to ~160 Mhz. Anyway, it is recommended that you run you GP at 20-133Mhz (safe settings). But one could try to replace the existing memory chip by a faster one, and see if his custom GP could operate properly at say, 180 Mhz.

Does anyone wants to give it a try? ;)

I also believe the memory chip makes a difference between GP's that can sustain 166Mhz, and the ones that cannot (like mine :/)

Apparently, Anarchy, over at GP32Spain has already done it. He replaced the standard 8 MB memory module by a faster 32 MB one, and managed to reach 200Mhz (stable?)

Apparently, somebody there is in the process of writing a bios that can use 32 MB of memory.

If anybody speaks spanish, it would be nice to have a quick translation of this thread ;)
