Hi

Please can anyone confirm if the following two CPS1 games should have sound? My roms work perfectly in Mamegp2x, but there is no sound, not to sure if it is because of my roms or maybe its just because of the early Mame version used?

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
Punisher

Thanks

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs should have sound as far as I remember... can't you just check with nebula on you pc? I am not sure about punisher though, since I never played it. I think all of the cps1 games use the qsound system and that is definetly supported by mame on the computer. Don't know about the gp2xmame, maybe it is not emulated yet...

Yes your correct both games have sound on the PC (Mame, Nebula etc), however Im not sure why it does not have sound on MameGP2x? is it because Mamegp2x is using old MAME 0.35b3 roms and sound was not yet supported or is it because my roms are incorrect?

I downloaded the PC version of Mame 0.35b and it does not even list the games so could not check for myself?

hmm... i am not a mame expert but I don't think it's because of the romsets you use. Does it actually use qsound? The qsound logo should be shown when the rom boots. If it does, then qsound needs to be emulated and that seems a task too complicated for the gp2x at the moment...

Both games use QSound. QSound isn't emulated in MAME GP2x at the moment and possibly never will be because it needs a lot of horsepower.

Exactly.

I remember Callus emulated QSound and I was able to have it run at full speed on my 300mhz pentium II. Granted I did have 256 megs of ram at the time.

Why the hell did the Capcom Play Systems use qSound anyway!?!

Hmm, Qsound produces pseudo 3D sound. Maybe that is the reason. The sound is quite good compared to other arcade games of the time.

But why would you need 3d sound on a arcade?

Why not? Same reason as in cinema or TV at home.
Use MAME at you PC and listen to Cadillacs&Dinosaurs. Sounds quite impressive (I think)
