I`m aiming to get this running at full 60fps without overclocking your gp2x, when I`ve ironed out the basic emulator and made it 100% stable, i`ll optimize into arm assembly.

Ooohhh... Competition :)

Emulator battle to the death!

Just tried it with R-Type, set it to 266mHz with sound on and as said before, it is not full speed and without sound.

But what's even worse: it has no diagonal detection. in R-Type, i just can go up, down, left and right. But no combinitions.
Remember that the GP2X can't combine Up+Left (and so on), because it has a 16-way stick.

Anyways, it looks more than promising. Keep up the good work. Thanks :)
Criest, he only just started porting it like 3 days ago. Calm down!

If things keep moving at this rate soon we'll have an emulator that can run at 1000fps with only 10Mhz :p

(But hang on we can't clock that low, damn!)

I'm just happy there is forward progress on the PCEngine emu front. It's one of my favorite systems. Tied with SNES for me.

I just can't wait for fullspeed FS0, sound and savestates. with or without overclock. Any other "features" will be a grand bonus. I personally hope both emus achieve perfection.

Quick update...

I removed my dirty screenblit code, and gained about ~7fps ;) Its still in pure C, and running rather nicely now!

Currently working on the joypad, gp2x joypad stuff sucks pretty hardcore, so I`m checking out daveC's work to fix it!

might release another later ;)-~

Alpha3 released, faster and with joystick diagonals sorted etc...

Enjoy!

You may want to leave the option where X + Y = diagonal too. This way it will work for those that have joypad modded their systems. The case 2 joystick programming can be used simultaneously. Case 2 helps a bit with the diagonal bias of the stick. The info in my sig explains the stick logic. You also may want to consider replacing the dodgy original cap with either one of mine or Craigs', it helps control ALOT.

Basically the way joystick logic is on the GP2X would be with case 2:

Sw1 = up
SW1+SW2 = up
SW2=diagonal
SW2+SW3 = right
SW3=right
....
SW1+SW3=diagonal (which I think it is now, this is still good for joypad modders)
...

let me know what you think... it uses your CASE2 stuff... ;)-~

Just had a play with Devil's Crush ... do you have sound enabled, 'cause I can't hear any. Speed looks better ... Great work on this ... I love how it does not mess up the menu after exit :D

If you want, you can post a topic in the News section ... I'll approve it toot-sweet ;)

This emu is so promising! I'd like to see it ported to other platforms too.
What about releasing the sources? It would get me horny. I love its compatibility.

Take care and have fun.
Keep up the good work.
I haven't seen you around in ages! Did F-Day ever happen?

Thanks Vobbo for this very fast update. I had a good play of many games this night :ph34r: .

I didn't noticed any games not working yet and the gfx render is really enjoyable.
Speed is really increased and every games run almost full speed @266Mhz. (~50fps)
Can we have a No O.Clock option for achieving better Overclocking thru Lcd/Cpu tweaker ?

The control are also better (still not perfect... DaveC ?).
What about the poossibility of choosing 4 or 8 ways controls (not really necessary but it could be a nice feature).

I also noticed that many games run faster with sound enabled !? Strange !?

This is a very nice Alpha release and it's starting to show great improvement. I would love to see your objectives with this emulator to be done. I have one question. Is this going to support TV out? I haven't tried since I don't have any gp2x tv out cables, but I got my Turbo Duo back from my brother. I've had it since 1992, but sadly it's not playing CD redbook audio anymore. I get sound fx but no audio from games or regular cd's. This is my favorite system and will always be. If this starts running perfect on the gp2x and I can play this on my TV it would be a nice replacement. I wish you the best of luck with this emu!

Yeah I've been using Gp2xEngine. It's ok for cd's but I hate the iso/mp3 toc thing. There's always issues. Especially with the cd audio tracks starting at different places no matter what I do to the toc files. I hope that this emulator could just load straight iso or bin/cue format. that would rock. I'm not sure if that's even possible though. Anyways I'm loving where this emulator is going.

Yes it's possible, but Pce Cds with 16bits 44.1kHz sound files needs a big Sd card.
I was able to shrink "faussete_amour" down to 138Mo with 8bits 22kHz sounds.
Of course you could rebuild your .bin after that.

I haven't tried it yet. I will when it gets more complete as in has sound and plays at FS1 with no OC. I am waiting in the wings and hoping for this one. PC-Engine is great.

i have tried all the versions released so far and cannot get it to work. It loads ok, i select the rom, press R, and then the screen gets a little brighter and nothing else happens.

Anyone else having this problem? is this something simple that i am doing wrong? Thanks :)
