One handheld ... SIX SPEAKERS!!

And just so you know, yes, the sound is excellent.

No amplification, the connection is nothing more than two mini audio splitters. One pair of speakers dominate the other four, though, really just because they're better speakers.

Meh, fix the SPDIF and code something for it, then I will be impressed. (Edit: please don't be offended, I am not putting down anyone's fun, just being me, see below for ideas about fun modding of GP2X speaker :))

I bet my $6 Harmon Kardon combo with Subwoofer from the Salvation Army second-hand store would blow that away.

Don't mind me though, I haven't the funds right now to buy another GP2X.

Oh, of course my computer speakers are better than these, but I'm not about to take apart my computer speakers for the next half of my project .... muahaha!

What do you mean take apart your computer speakers??

Are you planning to make a speaker system that will fit inside or travel with the GP2X?

I had similar thoughts myself, but I was planning to use 1.5" JBL Pro Laptop speakers to replace the ones inside and then make Bass tubes/ports out of some PVC pipe wrapped from the back of the speakers around to the top front of the GP2X.

I hope you have a cool idea too, mine was simply based on being portable, or a part of the GP2X.

Another Idea I had was to seperate the GP2X internally using a Vinyl trim strip under the LCD to make right and left sides, and then putting the bandpass ports somewhere on the front or top of the GP2X.

But I am betting that you want to make something much bigger :).

Ooohh ... should I tell them?

Alright, but just so long as no one else does it! Or, at least lets me do it first and parade around with it at Anime Weekend Atlanta!

Okay, I'm going to take those speakers apart and attach them to my clothing. Specifically, I will have four speakers inside my trench coat, and the other pair I plan on inserting into special-designed Persocom (Chobits) ears. I will be a walking sound system! At AWA I shall be announced as a homebrewed male Persocom that runs Linux!

Anyways, that's me plan! DON'T STEAL IT!! ...please?

I think I had those box speakers on my 486.

:) :) I have been given the other two sets before.

I think those tall ones are PolkAudio, they are really nice, are they the loud ones?

Mine were powered, it looks to me like your PolkAudio ones aren't, maybe that is why they are too quiet, if I am right.

Edit: I can't really tell from the pics either way, powered or unpowered.

What battery are you planning on using? Motorcycle?

Is the gp2x powering all those speakers?

I have the iMac and desktop picture! ;P, you crazy people and you thrift store speakers.

I should so try to connect my GP2X to my Marantz 2230 that I got for $25 at Goodwill that has four high-quality speakers that I got for $15 at Goodwill.

Now where was that mini stereo to RCA adapter that I had?

If you can't find it, get another at Goodwill :D, $1 usually, sometimes less.

They have little in built amps, that are switched on with the poered speakers, thats why one of the pair is heavier than the other usually.

I understand the amp thing but I mean POWERED, like AA's power. Plug into the wall power.

Where is that coming from?

wierdo...

btw, it actually sounds pritty interesting what you are planning on doing. It's going to be a lot easier to wear that than carrying around a huge boombox, 80's style.

Three sets of stereo speakers (3x right channel, 3x left channel), each with their own built-in amplifiers, taking the output from the earphone jack, split 3 ways. No big deal. The end result will be a combination of sound quality of the mean average rather than the best one. I am sure many people use portable speaker/amplifier systems with their GP2x anyway (I do), rather than ones with rely on being plugged into the wall.
