I decided to give Vice and OutcaST a go today. WOW! I have been using CaSTaway (Atari ST) emulator on the Zodiac for some time, but the GP2X version is just incredible! Works flawlessly, and the on-screen keyboard is very nice. Next I tested VICE. Now, I am an old school C64 freak. I ran a few BBS's, was a member of a couple of demo groups, and actually still have the demos we created. Ran a few of those on Vice, and it literally brought a tear to my eye. Basically, a perfectly emulated C64 in my hands. Even the voice samples we used in making the demos were emulated.

I have only had the GP2X for a few days now, and have already emulated Mame, Genesis, SMS, Gameboy, Atari ST, C64/Vic20, TG16, NES, SNES. STill some more to try. Next up: ScummVM and Amiga. ANd my vacation week just started. Life is grand!

Well, everything I tested worked. I tried all of my demos (6 of them) and a few games. Seems to work just as good as the PC counterpart.

That's pretty cool actually... is there a place where we could download the demos your group made? I mean, if you think they are worth looking at ;-)
You know, I think this is what emulation is all about: It's a homage to a good system... so are demos.

For people looking for demo you can go to Pouet
I dunno if they will work well, but I know I have use VICE and Frodo on PC before and was able to watch all the demo I throw at it ;-).

I was also part of the demo scene and the caugh caugh warez caugh caugh scene ;-).

Actually, yes ;)

Hopefully these work for you. My personal copies of our demos are in .D64 format, and I notice these are in .PRG. Should work tho as long as VICE accepts the format.
When you are in, spacebar in most cases advances a page. Sometimes it is the Commodore key. You will see some references to "The Wrong Number" in these...my old BBS!

There are two more, but they are not listed on the site. I know there are other places on the net that have our demos listed. Perdition is the one that has the (somewhat cheezy) startup voice sample. I used to be known as Dice/NTT (ie: NTT = "Entity") back in those days :)

another welcome from the Zodiac forums over at Emuboards! :D

I, too, am enamoured by Outcast, I've been using it for years on the Gp32, Zodiac, and now the GP2x! Skeezix really is "the man!" I never had the pleasure of playing on a real Atari ST, but this works out better for me anyway, because I can take it with me! :D

lol, I had a gp2x for like 3 days, until i realised that i will fail my exams if i don't stop playing it, so i sold it for the same price i bought it to a friend, and got a zodiac instead so i could lie to myself that i could "Read economics ebooks on it" ;) ;) ;) (2 in fact; 1 i bought for £25 which was "untested", but in fact works nearly perfectly :) )

I am gettin a gp2x in 2 weeks time though; it'll be an MK2 as well!! : so in fact i'm better off!
