What is the fastest you have run at (stably)?

I have just got a PSU and managed to get it running stable at 260Mhz, is this good or bad? It would be interesting to find out what the average is. We could do with a poll really!

EDIT: It's a MK II btw.

My 2X will run quite comfortably at 250/260.

I haven't found anything that has needed me to push it more than this as yet....

this may be a dumb question, but is there a risk of damaging the chips by overclocking too high (through overheating or otherwise) like there is with pc components?

I was quite surprised when I first heard about people overclocking a handheld!

Nope, as far as I know the worst that can happen is that your gp2x reboots/freezes and then it's all fine again... (reboots with normal 200mhz)

Mine stayes stable at 266Mhz, at 275 it crashes in a few minutes...

Is it possible for people to mention whether their GP2x is First Edition, Mk1 or Mk2?

I wouldn't mind knowing if F/E's and Mk1's are generally better at overclocking.

First Edition - 290Mhz
Mk2 - 265Mhz

290 Stable (with batteries) 295/300 runs for 20min... im quite lucky this time i think... my gp32 could only get to 150.

A measly 243MHz ... any more and it just crashes.

I must be one unlucky SOB - or am I doing something wrong. I run the cpu/lcd tweaker, set the cpu to 244 then press select, and the cpu/lcd tweaker just locks up. With 243 it drops back to the menu system and I can run emus etc ok.

I would be curious to hear from other MK2 users - especially those that bought theirs from gp2x.net.au
Maybe there is a batch with low overclocking ability, or maybe its just mine.

I guess I'm a lucky one. I can overclock to 290 with most emulators. The main one that causes problems for me is MAME. Roms have problems loading correctly and it freezes within a couple minutes if I clock to 290 or higher. 280 is fine though and I can play for hours.

Are you using PSU or batteries though? I find I can overclock slightly higher using a PSU.

Yours may not even be 243 stable. As when yo ureach the menu with a MK2 the clock is set back to 200. So after 5 mins at 243 you may crash etc.

Have you tried the speed tester app? http://www-users.rwth-aachen.de/markus.vehring/speedtest.zip

I find that app worthless. It said I could do 285mhz (it crashed on 290) but I can only get 270 stable, I can hit 275 for like 2 min.

As for Martin_F, are you still running firmware 1.2? Because the way you are doing your overclocking will only work in a gp2x firmware that is or less then 1.2.
