Before I would fork out some cash to get myself a GP32, I would like to know the hardware capability of GP32.

I am very keen in getting one unit knowingly that it emulate MAME, play DivX and MP3. But presently, I noticed it only uses SmartMedia medium for storage.
And getting multiple SM stick is not what I had in mind for a portability.

What is the largest SmartMedia storage capacity GP32 take?

If it's low, I would consider getting myself a storage wallet device (built-in HDD > 10GB) to swap-transfer the data on the move. Is there other better alternative?

Any suggestion?

One last thing, beside GP32 and Zodiac? no other opensource console which take emus?

Regards,

Kevin L

there is no internal memory in the GP32, and the largest Smart Media cards known are 128MB. There is also no memory expansion possible that I know of. If you are looking for high quality mp3 and video, I would go with another system with an internal hard drive, but if you want the emu's more than anything else this is probably the system for you. Also I don't know any other open source handheld systems out there. :(

Regarding emulators - there are a lot of interesting things going on with Palm o/s devices (including CaSTaway which originated there) but then at the moment you only have the Tapwave Zodiac to choose from if you want something fully game orientated.

no one has tried the xd picture card adapter yet that I know of. It is expensive.

SMC at 128 mb, whats wrong with that. Every other portable game system is just a game, a chip of memory you can't do anything with because its commercial. I don't consider palm pilots and other pdas gaming systems. You can fit tons of stuff on a 128mb smc, right now i have 2 smc 128mb, one for games and one for mp3s so far, i'm not close to filling up either.

An sm card (not stick, i think) isn't that big so u can't take it with u!

What's the Problem.
To take 3 smc with u take less space then ur drivers licence, id, and bank card!

he's just saying that he would rather have internal memory so he doesn't have to buy extra memory plus he doesn't have to mess with the extra memory. I think that's what he meant anyway.

Ah, i see!

But i don't think it's too bad.

I just think about the old times when i was running around with my gb and tons of cartriges. I didn't care about that!

And compared to this a smc is a very GOOD thingy!

 How do you thinks Sega's Nomad fans felt? *shot*

Gamepark, i believe has the smallest games on anything, only the Zodiac coming close, with the GCN coming next. Be thankfull. Look how far we've come in ten years, eh?

Sorry to bust the XD bubble, but even with the adapter 128mb is still the limit. go HERE for proof

Yeah, its somewhat sad. But if we could figure out a way to take a huge xd card and partition it into 2 seperate smc cards, then- it would be totally worth it. But I also fear a new bios would have to be created just so you could select an smc image to load. Or maybe not.
