    Linux 2.4 Vs 2.6 On The Gp2x

For gp2x use the 2.6 kernel does have better SD support in (beyond 2.6.11) and supports the ARM-920/940 series. However people would still have to write custom FB device drivers for the 940 and related video co-processing capabilities. Other than this, I have no clue.

    Toucpad/trackball Attached?

USB is not host, it is slave. This will allow the GP2x to act as a mass storage device so you can copy things to and from your SD cards. The MMSP2 Chip does have an on board USB 1.1 host but GPH isn't using that, thye are instead using a separate USB 2.0 slave.

    Music In Background

They were talking strictly about the main interface, which is monotasking. As in, you won't be able to play mp3 while reading an e-book, since these are two separate functions of the interface. You will be able to have games that play music during gameplay.

    Gp2x Sd Card Writing Speed

The latest kernels from http://kernel.org appear to have support for the arm processors ( /arch/arm ) as well as support for the 920 series of procs ( /arch/arm/mm/proc-arm920.S ). This is from a stable kernel (2.6.13.4), though I'm not sure how or even if they are tested for their arm...

    Gp2x Sd Card Writing Speed

There are newer SD drivers in the 2.6.11 and greater kernels that allow for better SD and SDIO support, though some people have had it longer: http://www.handhelds.org/hypermail/mmc-dev...rent/0078.html. This, however, does not mean that the "better" support will be in the kernel initially...

    Gp2x Sd Card Writing Speed

I think, for starters were looking at teh SD port running in mmc compatability mode. Which would be 20Mbit/sec (2.5MB/sec). Though it's possible that full SD speed will be achieved or implemented 100Mbit/sec (12.5MB/sec) See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital and look for the section...

    A Thought Concerning Linux..

Typically for swap partitions to be effective you need more swap space than you have ram. For instance, my first computer running linux was a pentium 133Mhz with 64M ram and used a 128M swap partition. Without preformatting each of your SD cards with a swap partition of reasonable size (swap can...

    Game Pad Connection

It all comes down to what they put in the release kernel (or what WE put into our kernels) and seeing how usable MAME is once its running. I expect good things.

    Gp2x Question About Gfx!

Until XGP has some Game developers backing them, and a console on display, I have to say that I belive the GP2x will sell better. It (the GP2x) has community and a plethora of software at it's disposal, due to the nature of open development. EDIT: Also, the only real competitors in it's market...

    Gp2x Question About Gfx!

You would think so, but as it stands the PSP has a good grip on the 3d handheld market, and seeing as the XGP is not intended as a device with community development or emulation in mind, its possible that it WON'T sell as well or get as much attention. It's market is already taken.
