Attempting To Compile, Missing 'cqs' And 'c'

Looks like cqs should be some sort of linker, but I've never run across one by that name. Try using gcc for that one as well. Also, rather than creating symlinks in your /usr/bin directory just to try and compile one program, you could instead redefine c and cqs in your Makefile so that the...

Are There Any Pandora's Left For Sale?

I'm assuming that once they have the first 1000 assembled, they will have a better idea of the part quality across the entire batch. That will give them better data with which to go to the factory to tell them if any of the tolerances were unacceptable. Cheers, Michael

Panjoust - A New Simple Platformer

For more oriental looking mountains, I'd suggest making them more rounded than craggy, like what you would see in a Sumi-e ink painting. The type of mountains you drew do exist in the orient of course, but the rounded ones are more stylistically associated with Japan and China. Cheers, Michael

Do You Use A Gnu/linux Distro On Your Main Computer?

I run Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop, Ubuntu 9.4 on my notebook, and just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix on my netbook. I also run Maemo on my Nokia N810. At work I'm on some version of Red Hat. I stopped dual-booting around 8-9 years ago, but my wife still uses Windows on her notebook (so I...

A Query About Game Engines And Timers

Here's a related question for everyone to ponder... If you have a loop that is constantly updating fractional time, is this more of a drain on the battery than an app that does what it needs to do within a target framerate, and then sleeps the rest of the time? Conversely, if you have a game...

    [Off-Topic] Pandora Motivational Posters

Hehehe.... looking at that image I can't help but think the tagline should be: PANDORA Please wait... (I kid... I kid...) Cheers, Michael

    Linux Arm Netbooks?

Over the past year or so, many Linux pundits have been talking about an oncoming wave of ARM based Linux netbooks. But now that my wife is looking to buy a netbook for her and I to use (and I've offered to find one for her), I'm coming up largely blank! The Pandora is an awesome Gaming device...

    Hosting For Pandora Sdk

I'd be interested in your writeup, Jeff. :-) I installed the dev environment for my Nokia N810 this weekend (just now starting to play around with it), and it has similar obstacles to overcome as building for Pandora. It looks like Nokia/Maemo went with the approach of building a Scratchbox...

    Hosting For Pandora Sdk

So what exactly is included in this SDK, and is it Windows? Linux? Mac? Is that really the smallest the "SDK" can get? Does it include headers for SDL and all the major libraries that will come standard on the Pandora? Does it include documentation? Thanks! Michael

    Imagine

I think MooTheKow is correct in that only a small percentage of the Pandora owners will wind up being developers, but Exophase is also right in pointing out that when people do finally get the hardware in their hand, there will be a coolness factor of writing something and then seeing it run on...

Thoughts On "why Isn't Software Done"/'i Payed... I Ex

From my point of view watching the Pandora development over the past couple of years (and the angry threads as of late), it really just looks like standard Open Source development to me. You start with lofty plans, reality kicks you around along the way, some people make promises and then flake...

    Mod To Make Pandora Bigger

If you doubled the size, it wouldn't fit very well in your hands and wouldn't be very portable. If you don't care if it is a handheld device and are looking for something more like Ben's 16 lbs PS3 laptop (does it run on battery?), then you could probably build a case that the Pandora fits in...

    Fbreader?

Count me down as someone wanting FBReader on the Pandora. I currently use it on my Nokia N810, and it's great. FBReader + Project Gutenberg = classical goodness!!! Cheers, Michael

    Programming On Pandora

I think it will be nice to have a programming environment on the Pandora, but I don't really see it as someone's main production environment for anything of significant size. I think one of your limiting factor is going to be the keyboard. Typing words is going to be fine on the Pandora, but...

    Out Of Curiosity...

Heh. I had a programming book for my Atari 800 where you created an assembler by typing out pages of hex codes which were then saved into a file for running. I also remember typing in text adventures from the backs of computer magazines, but all the strings had been encoded/obfuscated which...

    Pandora Not Powerful Enough?

Actually DNF is canceled and Open Pandora is in manufacturing, so at the moment the comparison isn't really valid. I think the original poster isn't taking into consideration the target audience of the Open Pandora. OP will not be a mainstream device. It will not have tons of commercial...

What Are The Conditions For A Successor Development?

A 1280x720 screen has 2.4 times the number of pixels as an 800x480 one. That's nearly two and a half times more calculations needed by the processor and graphics chip to fill it. Given that battery life and CPU power (and cost) are a concern with handheld devices (and that you really won't...

Will Start Working On Sprites, But...

Ah, yeah for OpenGL you can't RLE textures, but you can do smaller overlays. So if you had a 128x256 sized portrait, you'd probably create a 256x256 sized texture, with your blank face on the left of the texture, and all your mouth and eye animations on the right. Then you would blit the face...

Will Start Working On Sprites, But...

You would separate eye, mouth, hair stand animation, etc. and overlay it because it saves a ton of memory. And you don't have an image the same size as the face with just the eyes on it, you have a rectangle just slightly larger than the eyes themselves. And there won't be a lot of alpha tests...
