    Gp2x And N64

I have respect for the GPU940 authors and anyone who gets that processor working effectively. This takes quite a feat of programming and I commend them for it. My remarks are statements that the GP2X's true calling is not 3D. It is 2D. It is outstandingly unsuited for 3D in every way-- so it's...

    Answer Me This...

It's not hard to design a console that is better than the GP2X. But I doubt GPH's is a very lucrative field of business-- and therefore, venture capital hard to come by.

What's Up With You Guys? Mk2

While I'll admit I'd have built the whole thing much differently and a different SoC would be required to rectify all the GP2X's issues, the machine would be tolerable with mostly changes to the other parts of the machine. A replaced stick, a screen with a better viewing angle, higher-quality...

What's Up With You Guys? Mk2

I'd like to set the record straight for WHY there has been so much growing dissent as of late on these forums in response to the topic 'What's up with you guys' that was just closed once the creator decided he was no longer fond of the responses he was getting. I'd like to ask that this topic...

    What's Up With You Guys?

No, people just have differences of opinion. Everyone who isn't crazy about the GP2X isn't a rabid PSP or DS fanboy. That's a very closed-minded point of view. Different people may have divergent opinions, and that is something you have to accept. Banning people and locking topics whenever they...

    Gp2x And N64

For most tasks, it is. In a few rare cases it's helpful. But most programmers aren't even up to the task of working with it anyway, so it's a moot point. Bullshit it did. There were already 3D implementations using the 940T, heavily used in demos, and they performed about the same. Some...

    Gph About Fw3.0.0

I think that's Craig. I'd like to go on record as saying he sounds like a raspy woman. :) Just throwing that out there.

    Gph About Fw3.0.0

I'll cut right to the chase. If you can just make the skin available on its own, and it more than doubles your boot time, what reason would anyone have to ever install this?

    Gp2x And N64

In most cases, SM64 draws more polygons than Payback does-- and the way the camera is oriented ensures more objects onscreen are visible, and more of the environment as well-- due to the prevalent 'behind the player' angle that shows the whole world, rather than the 'overhead with a slight tilt'...

    Gp2x And N64

Egoboo is an EXTREMELY PRIMITIVE game graphically. And to quote the thread .. That includes absolutely no dynamic lighting. Making for something roughly the rendering workload of a PSX game. I reiterate. SM64 wouldn't ever work acceptably, period.

    Gph About Fw3.0.0

I think what Craig meant by that is, when FW 3.0.0 is actually released (even if it's just a new skin and a longer boot time), it'll probably be the year 2046.

    Gp2x And N64

Rewritten. As in, modified and recompiled from source code, which was probably C, which we don't have. No one but the developers/publishers the source to 99.999% of games so this is a useless argument. The most stressful aspect of Mario 64 was rendering its graphics-- the N64's CPU resources...

    Too Many Firmwares

The technical inaccuracies were the more invalid thing about the post. You can't 'mod-chip' a system that only has one chip-- an SoC, at that. Nor can you 'piggyback a 3D processor'... the very concept is ridiculous-- there are no paths outside the chip to video hardware, it's all internal.

    Too Many Firmwares

Actually it wasn't designed for games at all. It was designed as a portable media player-- and holy shit, what an awful media player. Honestly I don't blame it for 'not being powerful enough', I just have issue with the design flaws. A less powerful but more solid overall system, e.g...

    Gp2x And N64

If someone actually took the time to write a hand-coded emulator with an ASM CPU and software 3D renderer, it'd only run at ~6 FPS in a best case scenario. And that's being optimistic.

    Microsoft Vista Discussion

You do know MS didn't make DOS, right? They bought it. I can't imagine what of Wolf3D would be in Half-Life 2. Wolf didn't even render a scene with polygons-- it worked on the principle of raycasting and drawing of textures scaled and resized in arbitrary space. Half-Life 2 at its core has an...

    Microsoft Vista Discussion

Windows OS'es based on NT are dramatically different from 3.1/95/98/ME. These were just shells on top of DOS, plus some hardware abstraction, handling of drivers, a standard API and GUI, et cetera. NT is based on an IBM-written kernel that lends it its greater stability and also its independence...
