I used to write my own Makefiles, but I'm now trying to work with Kdevelop but it uses the autotools system. I've read about it and I seems a cool idea, I want to use it for my multiplatform 3D engine.

Is it a good idea to use it for a code that should compile for..?:

-GNU/Linux + OpenGL
-Windows mingw32 + OpenGL
-GP2X + gpu940
-DS + libnds
-Dreamcast + KallistiOS + KGL

And perhaps in a future, for PSP + PSPGL

I'm reading tutorials and the autotools manual, I don't want to learn all the new syntax but, I have to anyway. But I'm so lazy...

Has anyone used it for something similar? Or at least for the GP2X? If so..any hints?

I've worked a little bit with autotools, and I think it is great. Only problem is that it can get very complicated at times, it has a steep learning curve. Anyway as you probably know already, autotools generates makefiles based on command line input and tests it runs on your computer, according to your configure.ac and Makefile.am files.

Anyway, here is my favorite tutorial. Its short, so it doesn't cover everything, but its a good start. Lecture about the GNU Autotools

best of ussing cmake over autotools or just write a custom makefile for each platform (probably the easiest).
