Ah, thankfully it's useless to me, as it has to do with running a phone line through an ethernet cable or something of the like.
Nontheless, seeing as the blue wire is hanging out of the protective insulation, it's probably high time I got myself a new ethernet cable.
There's normally 4 wires in ethernet cabling, and only 2 of them are for networking (unless you go real crazy speeds, in which all four are used). Considering most, if not all, home networks are either 10mb or 100mb; if your lead works, don't worry about it, as it's probably one of the wires that doesn't matter
