I don't know much about it either, just that software SPI/I²C should be available:

With this, a skilled engineer could turn a Pandora into a tricorder to make Mr. Spock jealous. Hmmm...

Sparkfun does a version on a break out board to make it easy to play with: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_i...roducts_id=8658

So, I think you're right an I2C version will be the way to go. I think it will still need to be external (on the ext connector) otherwise I could end up with hardware incompatibility if someone else wants to use UART2.

Now all I need is my pandora!

Current problem to be overcome is where to get the 14 way plug for the socket in use on the panda. I might sacrifice my TV out cable that I think I ordered...

http://www.onlinecomponents.com/product/3675453/ is the only place I've been able to find one without lying to Tyco Electronics and ordering a few samples. Unfortunately they have a minimum order cost that forces you to buy almost 50 of them.
I do not condone lying to Tyco Electronics and ordering a few samples.
