Now when I am talking to friends and going to get some drinks I have to say: Be right back, and that is kinda annoying. So it would be really great if I could just walk to my garden and could take a seat while still talking to friends somewhere else :).

In my experience, Mumble > TeamSpeak + Ventrilo.

The fact it's open-source just adds to the faptasticness of it. If I were to pursue any voicechat client leads, Mumble would be the one.

Mumble is the open source application that most looks to replace ventrilo/teamspeak, with specific functionality like command channels and multiple rooms and such. There is an open source ventrilo client that I had some luck with, at http://www.mangler.org . Probably wouldn't be too hard to port, I wouldn't think. Just if you really needed a ventrilo client, of course.
