okay, i've got a USB cable hacked up to my EXT port, using pins 9 and 10 (USBH-/+) of the EXT port, based on the details from the wiki. as far as the cable goes, its just a straight wire-up from the EXT connector, pins 9 and 10, to the +/- pins of a USB Host adapter (the square end) .. and this is plugged into a hub. perhaps i need more than just this wiring, but hey .. i'm a programmer, not a hardware guy, and the hardware guy says thats all i should need .. ;)

so .. i have a custom kernel, based on the stuff that we have so far, booting my gp2x, with the PLX drivers, and with the following config (note the CONFIG_MMSP2_* entries):

(i dunno what those "+'s" are all about .. wasn't getting those with the stock kernel .. perhaps i should be investigating those a bit further...)

anyway, based on this:

Code:
[root@Linux 2.4.25]$modprobe kernel/drivers/usb/host/usb-ohci-mmsp2.o
Using kernel/drivers/usb/host/usb-ohci-mmsp2.o
f_fact = 4, f_clk = 49766400, f_err = +1766400
a_fact = 3, a_clk = 49152000, a_err = +1152000

usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1

SerialNumber: f0004300
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 0 ports detected

and .... i'm assuming all else is fine ... so, i plug in my USB-1.1 hard-drive enclosure, which doesn't have power (darn it, why'd i lose that adapter), but wtf, lets try it anyway, and i get the following new results from a dmesg:

Code:

hmmm... those last lines (up to '0' ports detected) only come about when i switch on the USB disk drive, so .. does this mean EXT *is* wired to USB-Host on the MMSP2?

i'm still hacking/debugging, but in case any of you guys have any clues, i thought i'd better get this thread rolling .. if i can get external storage working next, i will let you know ..

Sorry most of that is above me but it does look like something is happening and do the liones after the 0 mean that it is trying to power the device from the console...??

If so we need bigger batteries !!
:D

well, still no luck i'm afraid .. i believe i may be mis-interpreting driver output, because i get those messages and yet still no device, so i'm still on the trail ..

but lets see if anyone else has clues. if this works, it may not be so hard to wire up USB after all, but if it doesn't, the plot will thicken, prolly ..

topor, you are my unofficial hero of the week just for trying mi amigo! keep up the good work and come on you devs help the guy out! he is doing this for the good of us all!

Uhm... yeah without a USB-storage device module you aint going to get very far.

Still, most of those messages are a good thing. The MMSP2 USB Host does talk back to the hub, and 2 way communication exists.

Try for a simpler device; like a USB RS232 or something built in (mabey) like a Keyboard...

Getting a HD to work 'out-of-the-box' would be a spectacular event.

Try 2 hubs plugged into each other in a row. Make shure they are all powered too.

i've got usb-storage.o (and have well and truly tried to get it running), but the point is, there is simply no USB ports on the GP2X, EXT port, as far as the earlier drivers are concerned.

a hub with no ports ain't much use..

i've tried SD-USB adapters, usb-hard drives, usb-serial convertor, usb-audio .. everything i've got available to me ..

.. even hubs.

ah well, we'll see if things get better with the 1.3.0 kernel, which i'm presumably going to be able to put my *_modules.o into ..

Have you looked thru the USB module code? sounds like it has been intentionally 'turned off'.

Lets hope that 1.3.0 comes with source...(and that at least the kernel modules can be compiled)
:rolleyes:

Beyond that, I don't know I'm no kernel expert. :unsure:
