Ok, so we have customizable boot sounds, how long until it's possible to change that green boot screen?
How about a boot screen competition once it's possible

Hmmm... AFAIK it's embedded in UBoot. I don't really think it's such a great idea to patch it just to change an image, but if you really want to then downloading the source and compiling a new uboot with a different graphic might actually be the easiest way.

Someone did this for FW 1.2.x ... Here's the link

... I had a nice splash screen showing a freshly deceased GG Allin in his coffin ...

Lovely. Welcome to the newbie-friendly face of gp32x.de. Here we like linux, emulation and looking at the corpses of feces-smeared rockers.

Well, someone at our German boards created a utility to change the black U-Boot bootscreen.

However, as the utility is not tested yet and nobody wants to brick his gp2x, it's not released yet.
I'm gonna test it soon - but I won't recommend anyone without a JTAG cable to use it.

Are animated boot screens possible ??

Or are the screens drawn using some kind of non-standard imaging format ??

I would love to make a cool animated gif instead of the boring existing one .

I'm guessing they use a wierd pallatte ... My image would not display any reds/oranges, so I opted for a B&W image.

Well, I was perfectly happy with the old screen, but now you've suggested a dancing penguin... Yeah, damnit, I want my dancing penguin!

I'm having the classic Nintendo GameBoy Ba-Ding on my gp2x and want an appropriate looking GamePark-Holdings GameBoy-LCD-Style Logo :)

I want it to start up with an animated version of the old Intel Inside logo but with Linux Inside (see gp2x.co.uk site) and the same music.

*recalls the intro before Super EF2000 started*

ahhh fond memories! :p

I would love to see the actual Linux boot sequence showing up... Like a haxor!

Actually, now that you mention it... There should be an option in the FW to turn it on. That would be useful for diagnostics. :) (and for |-|4><0|2ness)

ED: I'm loving the Nintendo Gameboy logo mimicry idea ^__^

I would like this as well. Very greatly. Knowing what is happening at boot is very, very useful.

ARM Inside :(

An animation would probably have to be uncompressed frames and therefore very large. Hence the use of PCM and not OGG or MP3 to avoid the overhead of loading a whole decompression engine before the KERNEL. I'd just hope to change the image personally.
